Before a film reaches its audience, what happens behind the scenes?
In Uganda’s film industry, UCC regulates relevant communications and audiovisual services, while the Uganda Media Council (@MediaCouncilUg) classifies films to guide their suitability for different audiences.
For filmmakers, understanding these distinct roles means knowing where to go, what requirements to meet, and how to navigate the industry with confidence.

For creative works to create value, they must reach an audience. UCC has made its Broadcast Rig Van available to filmmakers at no cost, offering an opportunity to reach communities beyond conventional platforms.
To use this opportunity, films must be classified by @MediaCouncilUg and include relevant screening permissions, a poster, and a trailer.
Interested filmmakers can submit requests to the Office of @UCC_ED. Supporting creators also means helping their work reach audiences and promoting appreciation of Ugandan stories.

With digital influence comes great responsibility. Eng. Emmanuel Muyomba, Head Regional Office @UCC_Official , shared vital insights on online safety, data protection, and combating misinformation during the workshop.
Stop, Check, Think, and Post, with the rise of AI-generated content, deepfakes, and edited media, creators must verify sources and context before sharing. Don't let the race for engagement override accuracy, dignity, and public safety. #Connectedug2030 | #DigitalCreators | #AcholiSubRegion |@Bbossa |

“As you create content, you exercise your freedom of expression. However, remember that freedom of expression has its limits. Your rights end where your neighbor’s rights begin.”
Mr. Daniel Baitwababo, Senior Officer Standards, @UCC_Official, during his presentation, reminded creators to exercise their rights while respecting the rights of others.
He also highlighted that @UCC_Official plays a crucial role in regulating content to safeguard the public, prevent harm, and foster national security alongside social stability.

Opening the workshop, the Director Corporate Affairs @UCC_Official, Mr. Fred Otunnu, representing the Executive Director @UCC_ED, challenged creators in the Acholi Sub-Region to see their culture, language, identity and stories as sources of creative strength.
In his remarks, he encouraged creators to view their creativity as a business, advising them to establish a recognizable identity, protect their work, understand the rules of the platforms they use, and seek lawful opportunities for monetization.
He emphasized that while a viral moment may attract followers, it is professionalism that transforms an audience into a sustainable career.

Entertainment is an industry; know the Ecosystem.
When you watch a film, listen to music, attend a concert, or stream local content online, you are interacting with an entire ecosystem. It involves writers, producers, broadcasters, cinemas, distributors, telecom networks, and audiences.
The UCC's role is broader than regulating what appears on a screen. It is also about helping create an environment in which Ugandan creativity can reach audiences responsibly and sustainably.
