The Third African Union Reflection Forum on Unconstitutional Changes of Government (UCGs) in Africa, held from 3-4 July 2026, closed on a high note, with Member States and participants recommitting to promoting good governance, peace, security, and stability in Africa and reiterating the AU’s zero tolerance for UCGs.
Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Commissioner @Bankole_Adeoye, and Dr Mathias Naab, Director, UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa, closed the session, reiterating the call to strengthen democratic governance, constitutional order, and conflict prevention in Africa, with a focus on addressing the drivers of unconstitutional changes of government. They also emphasised the importance of youth participation in governance, peacebuilding, and democratic transformation.
Among others, the Forum committed to strengthening coordination between the African Union and Regional Economic Communities, enhancing governance monitoring, and promoting constitutional governance and electoral integrity. They also called for upholding constitutional principles, respecting term limits, conducting credible elections, and strengthening democratic institutions.
They underlined the need to move beyond dialogue towards implementation, strengthening preventive governance, and working towards realising Agenda 2063; called for young people to be recognised as strategic partners in governance, peacebuilding, and democratic transformation; and proposed the establishment of an African Union Youth Peace Camp to strengthen youth engagement with the AU.
Director @PatienceChirad3 moderated the session.
It was more than just a marathon activation it was a celebration of people, culture, and connection. 🇺🇬🤝🇪🇹 Some participants ran, others walked, many paused for selfies, exchanged stories, and embraced each other's cultures. Every interaction reflected the power of sport to bring people together. At the heart of it all was one shared mission: activating the 2026 @RwenzoriMarathn & inviting the world to experience the beauty, adventure, and hospitality of Uganda.
