The Lees: A Sting in A Ghanaian Tale
1. When Robert Lee, an African American, met Kwame Nkrumah at Lincoln University during their student days, he was enthralled by the latter's charisma and bought into his dreams of Black liberation.
2. By 1956, five years into Nkrumah's leadership of government business and barely a year before Ghana's independence, Dr. Robert Lee & his wife, Dr. Sara Lee, both dentists, made the move to Accra.
3. There, they established their private dental practice in Osu and, together, raised their family.
4. But in a long turn of events, Robert Kojo Lee, a son of the couple, will become a bosom friend of a young Jerry Rawlings at Achimota School. The two later joined the Ghana Air Force together, Kojo rising to Flight Lieutenant, Rawlings rising to that & something far greater.
5. Then, on 31 December 1981, his old schoolmate seized power in a coup, becoming Chairman of the PNDC. Suspicious of what his friend had become, Kojo refused to speak to him for three months.
6. And on that fateful night of 28 October 1983, Flt. Lt. Kojo Lee was on curfew patrol in Labadi, Accra, amid reports of looting. In the chaos, he shot and killed a fellow Ghana Armed Forces member, Peter Atsu Bieboo. A man who had simply stepped out with his brother to buy kenkey.
7. Kojo was arrested and tried for murder before a Public Tribunal.
8. He went in confident he'd walk free. His childhood friend, after all, now sat at the very top of the state.
9. He was wrong.
10. On 29 September 1984, Flt. Lt. Robert "Kojo" Lee, son of the dentist who'd crossed an ocean to help build Nkrumah's Ghana, was executed by firing squad. His own friend, Head of State Jerry Rawlings, did not save him.
11. His mother, Dr. Sara Lee, would not outlive her grief by long.
12. But his father remained. Dr. Robert Lee, who had renounced his American citizenship for this Ghana, stayed in Accra for 26 more years, refusing bitterness, until his own death in 2010.
13. A friendship that began on a school compound ended by an execution by firing squad on the Kpeshie military range.

🚨 OFFICIAL: Real Madrid statement on Negreira case.
Real Madrid C. F. communicates that, in relation to the so-called 'Negreira Case', he has presented to UEFA a letter addressed to its disciplinary bodies.
In this letter, the club has informed UEFA of the existence of relevant evidence that conclusively reinforces the indications already known from the beginning about the existence of long-term payments, opaque and lacking any verifiable justification, made by the F. C Barcelona to the one who was vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, José María Enríquez Negreira, through different corporate structures.
Real Madrid emphasizes that these facts constitute, from the perspective of sports disciplinary law, a systemic risk of maximum gravity for the integrity of competitions, by evidencing the existence of a structure of undue influence on the arbitration system, incompatible with the essential principles of competitive equality, neutrality, impartiality and unpredictability of the sports result.
In this context, Real Madrid has urged the immediate resumption of the disciplinary file initiated at the time by UEFA, considering it unacceptable that this situation has been prolonged over time, since its persistence seriously compromises the credibility of football, its institutions and its leaders, so it demands a firm, exemplary and immediate response in the sports field, independent of the future of the ongoing judicial proceedings.
Therefore, our club asks UEFA, in the exercise of its own, autonomous and independent competence, to adopt the disciplinary and restorative measures that are appropriate in order to guarantee the integrity, transparency and proper functioning of the competitions, without this implying, in any case, replacing the function of the jurisdictional bodies of the State or anticipating a criminal qualification of the facts.
In this sense, Real Madrid, in person in the ongoing criminal proceedings as a private accusation, will exercise, as it has been doing since its inception, the actions that correspond at each procedural moment.
Real Madrid reaffirms its commitment to the defense of the essential values of sport and will continue to promote as many actions as necessary to ensure that events of this nature do not go unpunished.
🚨🎖️| 𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐍: Marc Cucurella is open to joining Barça and sees a move as a return home, though no formal talks have taken place with Deco. The defender could leave Chelsea amid a difficult spell at the club after Enzo Maresca's departure which changed his stance on the London club. His price set around €50M. Any move would likely depend on Barça making a major defensive sale first. [@martinezferran] #fcblive 🇪🇸
