केरल गृह विभाग ने सतर्कता ब्यूरो द्वारा 2006 में मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त ज्ञानेश कुमार के खिलाफ की गई प्रारंभिक जांच से जुड़ी फाइलें तलब की हैं। उस समय ज्ञानेश कुमार केरल में लोक निर्माण सचिव के पद पर तैनात थे।

यह कदम ऐसे समय उठाया गया है, जब मतदाता सूची के विशेष गहन पुनरीक्षण (SIR) को लेकर मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त के खिलाफ इंडिया ब्लॉक के प्रदर्शन जारी हैं।

THE RIGHT TO DISSENT CANNOT BE DETAINED

“WE CAME TO PROTEST PEACEFULLY.”

That is the central message from Anjali, an AISA activist, in the video. She says protesters had gathered to raise concerns over the Election Commission, SIR and the right to vote, but were detained by Delhi Police.

Her account also raises a broader question about the treatment of students and citizens exercising the right to dissent and protest. The video alleges that students were dragged away and placed in buses during the police action.

There is independent reporting that supports the core fact of the detentions.

On 25 September 2026, more than 60 people were detained near Jantar Mantar, including AISA leader Neha Bora, Yogendra Yadav, Anjali Bhardwaj, Prashant Bhushan and Dipankar Bhattacharya. Delhi Police said the protesters had not obtained permission for the assembly and that Section 163 had been imposed in the New Delhi district.

Other reporting described allegations of manhandling during the detentions, while also recording the police position regarding the absence of permission.

That distinction matters.

A protester's allegation of police brutality should be investigated—not automatically dismissed.

And a police claim about lack of permission should not automatically settle the constitutional question either.

When citizens protest against the functioning of an institution as fundamental as the Election Commission, the democratic response should be lawful policing, transparency and accountability—not the disappearance of the protesters from public view.

The real test of democracy is not whether citizens are allowed to agree with power.

It is whether they can peacefully question it.
