#Syria Commission for Missing Persons issued a statement saying after a long and thorough search for the children of Dr. Rania al-Abasi's 6 children, they are all presumed deceased and their family has been notified.
This was one of the most known and devastating story of missing children in Syria
"The arrest and trial of Atef Najib does not test, nor prove, the independence of justice in Syria today. Initiating judicial proceedings into the crimes of Kaakeh and his followers is what tests and proves that independence"

Let me trace the timeline here because nobody's connecting it.
Step 1: Scrape the entire internet. Every book, every article, every conversation, every piece of art, every forum post. Do it without asking. Do it without paying.
Step 2: Train a model on all of it. Call it "artificial intelligence."
Step 3: Go to BlackRock's Infrastructure Summit and announce: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter."
Step 3 is where you sell people's own knowledge back to them. On a meter.
They took the collective output of human thought, compressed it into a model, and now they want to charge you by the token to access a version of what you and everyone you know already created.
One Reddit user put it perfectly: "They stole all this data from us, the people, our life's work, creativity, art, by devouring the internet and blowing through all copyright laws. Now they want to sell it back to us in the form of a utility."
Imagine if someone photocopied every book in the public library, burned the library down, and then opened a subscription service for the copies.
That's the metered intelligence business model.
And they're pitching it to infrastructure investors as though they invented water.
"In September 2025, nine mosques and cultural centers in and around Paris were targeted...Bloody severed pig heads, each marked with the word “Macron” in blue ink, were left outside their front doors."

I've been doing this work a long time but nothing prepared me for what I saw on a recent reporting trip in Somalia. I was there to look into rising food and fuel prices from the war in the Middle East landing atop dramatic cuts to the international humanitarian relief system.
still not quite over the fact that i watched 15 year olds get sued for millions of dollars for downloading twelve songs and now we all have to accept AI slop because every tech company in the known universe decided that IP laws don't exist now that they're inconvenient for them
@RenaNetjes But cultures aren't static. In general, niqab use has become more common in the Muslim world since the 1980s. So I would like to know what the percentage of women wearing it in the Syrian Jazeera region was a decade or two decades ago, also pre-war, pre-ISIS and so on.
@RenaNetjes Was it also that common in the region 10, 15 or 20 years ago though? Seeing a niqab in Damascus was very rare when I lived there and it was seen as foreign inluence. Didn't visit the Jazeera region.
