The alarming increase in rates of arrests and convictions of Nigerians involved in crimes in the US and other countries should be a matter of grave concern to all.Hardly a week passes without a Nigerian passport holder in the net. These negative behaviour and actions of a significant percentage of our citizens abroad is largely responsible for the ‘anti Nigerian’ sentiments abroad.A bitter truth many of our people don’t want to hear.
Security forces raiding the homes of opposition figures or critics of Government, hitherto only happens in African countries and other dictatorships;now it’s happening in the World’s most democratic country. Its happening to the vocal congresswoman,https://t.co/5b9lXD2q7J country should preach to Africans about freedom and democracy again.
The viral video of a ‘bandit’ pointing a gun at a kidnapped Kaduna mother, father and a small baby is tragic, unfortunate and condemnable.Years ago,we had such tragic experiences with the kidnappings of hundreds of students of Greenfield university,Federal forestry school and Bethel Baptist High School in Kaduna. The curious thing about this short video is the Bandit hiding and demanding N300million from a poor family of three and posting it on social media. The exploitation of Kidnapping and the weaponisation of banditry for political ends through footages like that are likely to be more frequent these days.Bandits criminality is now factored as a political strategy. The aim is to trigger outrage, evoke sympathy to attract political support. Its easier to defeat banditry than overcome politically induced banditry.
While calling on the security agencies to step up efforts to secure the release of the hostages,it’s a fact on the ground that security in the state is far better than it used to be through the efforts of the state Government.
I have observed that most people don’t know what is happening in their state Houses of Assembly and they don’t even know that their Local Government has a legislative arm. Most people have never visited their state Assemblies and don’t even know their https://t.co/dgRG0Gjl57 can hardly read any post on the activities of the State legislature or the LGs on social media. Its either due to ignorance, lack of interest or fear of the local dudes many of whom may not take criticism lightly. The only tier of Government most people know is the FG.Governance at the local level relatively enjoys immunity from public scrutiny.
Threatening the judges of the International Criminal Court by leaders of countries that pride themselves as bastions of democracy, justice, freedom and rule of law is one of the greatest ironies of the 21st century. The dividing line between democracies and tyrannies in the world is fading away quickly before our very eyes.
THE Supreme Court ruling that enabled Inec to exclude some names of candidates is very clear.Affected candidates should not waste their money, time and energy fighting a lost battle.I also wish to appeal to those Barristers and SANs to ‘pity’ those candidates and allow them to rest, and not mislead them into spending more money “filing fresh suits”. Four years will come and go;let them strategise for the future.
Bathroom accidents has consumed many lives in most of our homes. There are cases of spinal cord injuries and other forms of paralysing health cases associated with the Bathroom.Stepping on a wet floor,a wet Soap or rushing to pick a phone can lead to fatal injuries.Badly installed water Heaters can also be an electrocution hazard. The bathroom is a dangerous place that needs your full attention. Its the only room where you strip and lock yourself alone. The Senator Ningi revelations that a former katsina lawmaker died as a result of Bathroom accidents should be a lesson to all.
The ADC guys are still bitter about the Peter and Kwankwaso divorce;hence the smear that they are working for the ruling party or the https://t.co/Z2nWiXy6ev consideration to the fact that they are all accomplished politicians with their own independent track records, and have the right to associate and disassociate. This is the price they will continue to pay for refusing to be supplementary, and disposable cargoes in someone’s container. They wanted to use them and sacrifice them for ritual in their perennial political expeditions.Political parties shouldn’t be cultish groups where one can’t pull out in peace.
The Proposal to reserve some parliamentary seats for women in all the states and federal legislatures has not seen the light of the day.Women have been left to struggle for survival in the toxic and tough political terrain.
The South East has the lowest number of registered voters in the country. This is a serious political issue for the region. The problem is either that many people from the region decided to register and vote in other states or there was no mobilisation and enlightenment on the need for people to register. The North West is the lowest in literacy rate and the highest in voter registration.A thought for political scientists.
The right wing is on the rise in the west:all the laws that have been making it possible for Africans become citizens of other countries are under threat, and gradually being eroded.
DRC is looted from the inside and outside and Rwanda is blamed for its https://t.co/mZvyUiy5SD African will tell a fellow African not to interfere into African affairs, but will not tell a Superpower not to meddle into African affairs.
It’s relieving and commendable to receive the report that the abducted Kaduna couple have regained their freedom.Kudos to the Kaduna State Government and the security agencies involved.I hope those who raised a voice in the aftermath of the kidnapping will post and appreciate the efforts made to secure their freedom.
With the way ADC flag bearers in Kaduna are defecting to the APC ahead of the upcoming election, only serial loser Isah Ashiru and a few others bound to lose might be left to contest
