RWANDA’S LAST PRE-COLONIAL KING WARNED HIS HEIRS OF A CURSE FOR ACCEPTING BAPTISM — DECADES LATER, HIS PROPHECY SEEMED TO COME TRUE

King Yuhi V Musinga, one of Rwanda’s most influential monarchs, became the last king to rule Rwanda under the traditional pre-colonial order. During his reign, he faced growing pressure from Catholic missionaries and the Belgian colonial administration to embrace Christianity, but he firmly refused baptism.

Musinga believed that conversion would not only challenge Rwanda’s traditional spiritual beliefs but also weaken the sacred authority of the monarchy and increase foreign influence over the kingdom. Throughout his rule, he resisted efforts to convert him, maintaining that the king’s authority was deeply connected to Rwanda’s ancestral traditions.

However, members of his own royal family eventually accepted Christianity. In 1914, his eldest son, Prince Rudahigwa, was baptized and given the Christian names Charles Léon Pierre. The decision reportedly angered Musinga, who opposed the conversion of the royal lineage.

According to accounts from the time, Musinga warned his descendants against accepting baptism. In a 1931 letter to his daughter Musheshembugu after learning that she was about to be baptized, he strongly condemned conversion, calling it an “abomination” and warning that those who abandoned the traditions of their ancestors would lose their prosperity and face his curse and that of God.

His warning appeared to become reality. On 12 November 1931, Belgian authorities removed Musinga from power, accusing him of resisting colonial reforms and refusing to cooperate with Christian expansion. They replaced him with his baptized son, who became King Mutara III Rudahigwa.

Musinga was first confined in Kamembe before being exiled to Moba in the Belgian Congo (present-day Democratic Republic of the Congo), where he died in 1944 without ever returning to Rwanda.

The events that followed seemed to mirror his warning. Rudahigwa, who became a strong supporter of Catholicism and played a major role in Rwanda’s transition toward independence, died suddenly in 1959 in Usumbura (present-day Bujumbura, Burundi) while meeting Belgian officials during discussions surrounding Rwanda’s political future.

His unexpected death created a succession crisis. He was succeeded by his younger brother Kigeli V Ndahindurwa, who had also been baptized as a child. But after the 1961 revolution Catholic and colonial-backed staged revolution, Kigeli was removed from power and spent the rest of his life in exile, dying in the United States in 2016.

In the end, both of Musinga’s only two sons who also became kings died outside Rwanda, neither left a male heir to continue the dynasty, and the centuries-old Rwandan monarchy came to an end. In general, the most of Musinga's 19 immediate children died outside Rwanda.

Whether viewed as a spiritual prophecy, a historical coincidence, or a reflection of the dramatic changes brought by Belgian colonialism, the story of Yuhi V Musinga remains one of Rwanda’s most fascinating royal chapters. #FactsOnRwanda

🇨🇩 Congo peace deal in tatters as full-scale offensive begins

The Democratic Republic of Congo has launched a major offensive against M23 rebels across the entire front, following more than 15 hours of airstrikes overnight.

Government forces, backed by Burundi's military, P5 Coalition fighters, and Wazalendo militias, are pushing on multiple fronts around Bukavu and North Kivu as heavy fighting intensifies.

If this offensive continues, the Trump-mediated peace deal is effectively dead.

Jusqu’à ce jour, on est face à plus de 5 sanctions que les USA ont imposées contre soit AFC/M23, soit le Rwanda dans ce conflit. Rien contre Kinshasa, malgré les preuves irréfutables de violation du cessez-le-feu et d’autres crimes comme les bombardements des infrastructures civiles. Masisi, Rutshuru, Goma ou encore Minembwe, les drones tuent jour et nuit.
Qu’est-ce qui fait que le régime Kinshasa est protégée ?
Joseph Kabila a aussi été sanctionné, pourtant il n’a aucun lien avéré avec le mouvement et tout ce qu’il a fait jusqu’à présent c’était de tenter d’apporter sa pierre à l’édifice de paix.

Ces sanctions unilatérales donnent l’impression que la médiation n’est plus aussi neutre qu’elle le devrait !

Le risque c’est qu’à un moment une partie décide de se retirer des négociations et que tout tombe à l’eau pour que sur le terrain le plus fort gagne et ramène enfin la paix !
