I'm not a relief pitcher I'm the closer.
1/2 Marathon in under 2.
You'll either get better or get worse everyday, you'll never stay the same.
Work in progress.
He understood that this batter was in defensive swing mode. The batter just watched the 2 batters in front of him get struck out. He is behind on the fastball so was likely to chase high. Going out of the zone while behind in the count was a calculated risk that paid off.
Batter 2 tested the adjustment. I fell behind 2-0 early. Instead of over-throwing, I locked in my release point and pounded the zone. I attacked the upper-inner quadrant with elevated fastballs to earn back-to-back swinging strikes for the K.
Great coordination with the catcher. They came back to the same spot the batter took a strike from earlier in the at-bat and got him swinging. A lot of times batters take strikes early because they don't like the location, not a bad idea to go back there later in the at-bat.
Batter 3 forced a 6-pitch battle. I stole a called strike with an inside fastball, then tunneled three straight low-and-away changeups to force defensive foul balls. After extending the count, I blew a low-and-in fastball past him to close it out.
Good lesson for a young pitcher. Understanding that the game changes as you mature physically and making the adjustments is difficult early but will help you become a better player in the long term.
Hitters stop chasing early fastballs when your velocity jumps. I adjust my game plan to match. I bring my fastball closer to the zone for called strikes early. Then I drop in the off-speed to set up the close. I apply every lesson to evolve my game. Video shows lead off batter.
Jacob has been working really hard this summer in the weight room and on the field. He put on weight and increased his fastball velocity to near 80 mph.
Velocity establishes the baseline. Command secures the outs. 📈
Check out my recent summer relief outing below: 0 ER, 0 BB, and a 59.5% Strike Rate. We rely on late movement and attacking the zone. Summer schedule updates coming soon. 👇

Jacob executes in the classroom exactly how he attacks the strike zone. He finished his freshman year with a 104.3 weighted GPA. He pairs academic discipline with a young for grade 79 mph fastball baseline.

Rank 20/438. Freshman transcripts: 100 in Geometry Honors & 100 in Applied Engineering. I align my STEM track with my physical projection on the mound. Verified 79 MPH FB baseline.#ClassOf2029#Uncommitted@wranglerbsb @UofBbaseball
A late-game RBI is more valuable than a hit. While hits are always important, scoring a runner from third base often matters more late in the game. That is why we track sacrifices (SAC), as they indicate productive hitters.
@jbowen2029 @UofBbaseball @CoachAtkisson7 Great two strike hitting approach. Didn't get the hit but had a productive at-bat that produced an RBI and helped your team.
Handling 88 mph heat as a 2029 grad. 📈
Played up with @UofBbaseball 18U today. Top 5th, 1 out, runner on 3rd. I drove an 88 mph fastball hard to the right side for the RBI. The 2B made an elite diving stop, but I take a productive situational out every time.
@CoachAtkisson7
Great job understanding the situation and getting efficient outs. It's just as important to practice efficiency as it is to throw swing and miss pitches. Pitchers must be able to do both. Great job!
@wranglerbsb 2029 RHP Jacob Bowen Jr. closes for @UofBbaseball with efficiency: 9 pitches, 7 strikes, 1 K! 79 MPH FB hits the zone high for a swinging strike, forces 2 weak SS groundouts, & paints a low called strike 3. 4.4 GPA

Heatmap from Thursday’s relief. Intentionally pitched to soft contact, pounding the bottom of the zone to keep my pitch count low (42 over 2.2 IP).
Kept efficiency high (3.5 P/Batter) to maintain fresh availability for another appearance this Sunday.

4 pitches. 3 delivery methods. Total timing disruption.
Finishing bullpen work for @WranglerBsb. I command both halves of the plate with my 2-seam, slider, curve, and changeup from the windup, stretch, and slide step.
