It’s the final week before nominations to the @UNESCOUK Memory of the World Register close. We asked Ruth Honeybone, Manager of the Lothian Health Services Archive, about the positive impact of a #MotWUK inscription.
These unique collections chart the unprecedented rise of the disease between 1983-2010 and combine records of the NHS, local government, charities and campaign groups to document the full response to HIV/AIDS in Edinburgh and Lothian.

Another week, another spotlighted inscription! Today we’re looking at the Archives of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, which were inscribed onto the #MotWUK Register in 2014 @RNLI@UNESCOUK
The Archives document the early days of the institution and include Hillary’s papers, Committee Minutes, photographs and posters, press cuttings and campaign material, as well as details of RNLI crew, lifeboats and publications.
She continued, “We were very aware that it was the first item on the UK Memory of the World register to relate to Northern Ireland and hopefully it will prove a catalyst for more in the future.”
Our spotlight today is on #MotWUK inscription The Great Parchment Book of the Honourable the Irish Society. A hugely significant record of the Ulster Plantation in the early 17thC, it provides a unique insight into the history of Northern Ireland @LdnMetArchives @UNESCOUK
Project Manager Philippa Smith said upon its inscription; “The recognition of the significance of the Great Parchment Book…was the pinnacle of the project to digitally reconstruct this truly remarkable survivor from a difficult and poorly documented period in British history”
