@petedroberts @jojoevs @wgmin_education I think if we have a 2nd wave, an additional week off in October is hardly going to make the difference. Plus, as WG cannot see into the future (to my knowledge), how could they have picked the right week to give schools off? It’s daft even suggesting that they could have.

@WaiteyCJ79 @PaulMatthews67 I’m a parent 1st & a teacher 2nd. As a teacher I jumped at the chance of a long Oct holiday. Then I panicked about my son. The parent in me is feeling strongly about this. My son is an A* student and I want to keep it that way. As a teacher we are preparing all the time for Sept.

@PCamhs @wgmin_education I represent my own child. I am happy with the LA’s decision not to go changing the ‘original plans’ for term time, which everyone has known about since September. Kirsty Williams should never have tried to change that without appropriate discussions.

@Michellehibbs3 @wgmin_education So how is a decision made? Who is prioritised? ALN? Exam years? Councils haven’t changed anything, they’ve just stuck to the original plan, which parents were made aware of in September. They haven’t taken anything away from ALN. KW tried to promise something she shouldn’t have.

@PCamhs How is 2 hours in the last week; sat 2m away from friends; in a completely sterile & stripped down environment that they barely recognise; with teacher’s wearing gloves & masks beneficial to MH? BC that’s what my son was offered. Is that really more valuable than 5 learning days?

Initially I think the first few weeks may be cautious, but SD will end up reduced to 1m and we’ll all adapt again, with more children in. By half-term, we’ll be in big trouble if kids aren’t all back, esp if there’s been a steady decrease of infections.

@harriesno6 @jojoevs @wgmin_education There will be a huge push to return to normality in Sept. Especially if England & Scotland do & if SD is reduced to 1m. Unless Wales want to fall drastically behind, I see schools far more ‘normal’ in Sept than they’ll be in July, esp for exam years. 2nd wave might never happen.

@alexandradot @MonmouthshireCC It won’t. Your son is more resilient than you think. But trust me, if he had the fourth week in July, he probably would not even have wanted to go in. It looks crap with the SD. He will gain more from a week of education in October.
