One hundred years ago today, a silent parade protesting the arrest of strike leaders would escalate into a deadly confrontation on the streets of Winnipeg. The newspaper reports that followed show the differing perspectives of Winnipeg’s divided city.

100 years ago today, the 26th day of the Winnipeg General Strike, the Winnipeg police were fired after refusing to sign an anti-strike pledge. Previously, the police had remained on duty at the request of the Strike Committee.
