Shaheed Sepoy Muhammad Tarique and Shaheed Havildar Ahsan Ullah Khan were among the 57 peacekeepers from 32 countries who were honored today for their ultimate sacrifice in the service of international peace under the banner of UN Peacekeeping.
Pakistan is the 5th largest contributor of uniformed personnel to UN Peacekeeping, the UN's flagship activity. It currently deploys more than 2,800 military and police personnel to the UN peace operations in Abyei, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cyprus, Somalia, South Sudan and Western Sahara.

On the occasion of the first martyrdom anniversary of Pakistani peacekeeper, Sepoy Muhammad Tariq, we pay rich tribute to him for his valour and sacrifice.
Sepoy Tariq represents a proud tradition of the Pakistani peacekeepers who have laid down their life in service of peace and in line of duty.
He was martyred on January 28, 2024, while protecting civilians in #Abyei.

It was a pleasure to meet with the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, General Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, with whom I discussed ways to further develop the cooperation between Pakistan and @UN Peacekeeping. I thank him for Pakistan’s steadfast support to peacekeeping.

The celebrations featured a flag hoisting ceremony, cultural performances, community engagement, and reflections on the enduring spirit of freedom and solidarity.
The @UNISFA_1#Chinese Quick Reaction Force and #Pakistani peacekeepers conduct joint foot and vehicle terrain reconnaissance and familiarization patrols of northern Abyei. The joint patrols are aimed at boosting operational coordination and protection measures.
