With the Ornstein news around hall I also think it’s clear that hall isn’t willing to rock the ship at Newcastle, which was a key factor to getting this deal over the line.

I would be all over that Cristian Romero deal at the current price being reported (30-40m). We are talking about a World Cup winner here and although he was part of a dire situation at spurs, you would hope a change of environment would help him evolve. You cannot deny his qualities as a centre back.

@AdamJoseph Still find it strange that it’s another loan and they can’t get a fee for him. He is an Ineos signing so can’t imagine the wages are extortionate. Decent young player who’d suit the Italian league to a tee and still forced to loan without an obligation.

Each one of those has its own seperate context. Anderson never once indicated he wanted to join United and always gave his priority to city. Matheus Fernandes, a relegated player was sold for 85 million and got offered stupid wages by spurs which we didn’t and never should match, and tonali was again an overpriced player on astronomical wages. We’ve just signed two midfielders for half the money which will leave room for more to do in this window and windows to come.

Feel like some United fans would be outraged at signing a player like Neto, and they will also be the same fans that tell you city are making statements in the market🫠

@PGalway48863 @muneneeeee @FPLfrasier I think he believes what he’s saying, but we’re not going to get back just by spending a lot of money, we’ve got to spend the RIGHT money on the right players. A year or two would mean 2-4 transfer windows which would be 6-12 signings. So we’ll see how it plays out

And those clubs gradually got to the position they are now by spending astutely in the windows building up to success with 50-60 mil signings and THEN came the big hitters. United can’t just jump from 0-100. Consistent progression in squad building to the point where we can go for the big guns is the right path to take.

I actually don’t think Lewis Hall happens at his stage. Going from Newcastle refusing to sell to agreeing a fee in the time we have remaining feels unlikely. Very curious to see how we proceed with the rest of this window…
