Launched today - Pleased to have supported the @LGAcomms to develop this really important toolkit for councils to self-assess their approach to supporting councillors with abuse and intimidation. Given the upcoming election, all councils should be thinking about this.
We're proud of the toolkit we developed with the @LGAcomms was launched today. This comprehensive resource is designed to help councils tackle abuse and intimidation, ensuring a safer environment for our councillors. #LocalGov#DebateNotHate#GeneralElection2024#safety
Respect in politics is the cornerstone to preventing abuse, harassment and intimidation. We worked with the LGA to create a tool for councils to self assess their response which launched today: https://t.co/x8qqfzZfYb
⚠️ Calling relationships #toxic undermines the severity of #domesticabuse. From coercive and controlling behaviour to physical violence, abuse is never acceptable. Let's use language that reflects the gravity & severity of the issue.
There is no such thing as a #toxicrelationship. Labelling relationships as 'toxic' shifts blame away from abusers and undermines survivors' experiences. Relationships are shaped by behaviours. Let's address those behaviours and hold abusers accountable. #domesticabuse
I’ve fixed it. This is what we actually want. An ambition for us to feel safe whilst we’re actually the opposite is playing in to the ‘overly emotional women’ narrative/borderline gaslighting. To make us actually safe, your focus needs to stretch beyond CCTV/more police.
Two thirds of councils warn communities will see cuts to neighbourhood services as they struggle to plug funding gaps.
We're urging the Govt to provide further funding to address the growing financial crisis facing councils and local services.

Exciting morning facilitating a national sounding group with senior leaders across councils as we develop the #LGA toolkit to support Ending Abuse in Public Life. The toolkit will support councils to self assess their arrangements #DebateNotHate
It was great to be at the first global summit on #deepfakes. A key takeaway has been the language itself and moving away from conceptualising this as non-consensual ‘pornography’ and calling it what it is; abuse. #myimagemychoice
A takeaway from the #deepfake global summit was recognition of the impact of image based abuse on victim/survivors. In a context in which #VAWG is already minimised in society, recognition of the impact is vital so this is seen & responded to as a form of #VAWG
Today we’re at the first ever global summit on #deepfakes hosted by @myimagemychoice. First up @SophiaBush discussing how women’s bodies are weaponised to push them out of power with Noelle Martin. Meaningful, collective action is urgently needed.
I welcome today's report by @VictimsComm recognising how crucial advocates are in keeping victims engaged in the complex justice process. These findings further strengthen my calls for a Victim Care Hub, navigating victims through justice and ensuring their rights are delivered.
Perpetrators use economic abuse to make victims think the abuse is inescapable. Many end up trapped with the abuser or left with no money or home if they flee.
It is devastating that so many domestic abuse victims end up taking their own lives (1/2) https://t.co/LYo1vYpZbI

#IWD2024: “I made a decision that I wouldn’t change my accent or how I spoke. If I outwardly appeared like someone who'd come from a higher privileged background, I'd be reinforcing the idea that only people from that background belonged in certain spaces” https://t.co/VZb3FS2mZY
