In #Gaza, over 63,000 girls and boys are taking part in classes run by UNRWA in Temporary Learning Spaces in 77 of the Agency's shelters.
But these locations are no substitute for schools. Children need proper classrooms where they can learn, grow and rebuild a sense of normalcy.
For more than 75 years, UNRWA has provided #Palestine Refugee children with quality education. The Agency needs to go back to teaching them in schools, to help build their future.
.@UNRWA has successfully concluded the 2025/26 school year in Lebanon. Final exams were completed across all schools, with strong participation despite challenges. Average participation was 97% for in person classes and 89% where education was moved to online due to the conflict.
At the UNRWA Pledging Conference, Commissioner-General a.i. Christian Saunders emphasised that the Agency must evolve to address new challenges.
Reform means adapting to new realities to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most through modernised ways of working: streamlined processes, data informed decision making, and strengthened accountability in delivering maximum value for every contribution received.
Until a lasting solution is secured, enhanced opportunities for Palestine Refugees provide much needed positive prospects for youth and the region as a whole.

UNRWA Commissioner-General a.i. @CFSaundersUN welcomes the strong political support expressed by Member States at yesterday’s Pledging Conference for UNRWA’s vital work providing humanitarian assistance and essential public services to millions of Palestine Refugees.
New funding amounting to USD 4 million was pledged during the conference, primarily for the emergency appeals. While UNRWA is very grateful for all contributions made in support of Palestine Refugees, the amounts received yesterday unfortunately do not significantly reduce the cashflow deficit of USD 100 million for 2026.
It is hoped that in the coming months, Member States will provide funding commensurate with the political support shown towards the work of the Agency. This is vital if UNRWA is to continue fulfilling its General Assembly mandate to protect and assist Palestine Refugees.
More than half a million children depend on UNRWA teaching facilities across the occupied #WestBank, #Lebanon, #Syria, #Jordan, and the #Gaza Strip.
The Agency promotes a future where Palestine Refugees can realise their full potential and live with dignity, with equitable access to essential services until a just and lasting solution to their plight is achieved.

UNRWA teams continue to support children across #Gaza.
At Asmaa School, recreation and sports activities help children have moments of play, laughter and find joy through the “Play and Have Fun to Recover” initiative.
Play is a powerful form of psychosocial support that enables children to heal, thrive, and grow up with hope for a brighter future.
UNRWA is more than an agency.
We are teachers helping children learn, nurses providing healthcare, social workers supporting families and frontline staff meeting needs on the ground every day.
Behind the disinformation are real people, real needs and real rights.

Across #Gaza, humanitarian needs remain immense.
Safe drinking water, medicines and food are in short supply, while massive damage to the Gaza infrastructure continues to severely affect the lives of the refugee communities.
UNRWA helps meet the needs on the ground, providing health services, learning activities and clean water and essential services where possible.

Between 1946 and 1948, more than 700,000 Palestinians were displaced from their towns and villages.
Born in 1948, #Palestine Refugee Sariyah has known many hardships. Yet the most recent conflict was the toughest.
Sariyah lives in an UNRWA shelter in #Gaza, relying on the Agency’s emergency support including food, medicine and essential supplies. She worries that even her most basic needs may not be met if UNRWA is not allowed to bring in supplies.
#UNRWAworks to ensure Sariyah and many others receive urgent food and medicines, and feel safe.

“I still vividly remember the long queues of refugees heading north: men, women, elderly people and children, carrying some of their belongings,” tells #Palestine Refugee Mahmoud.
Through his old photos, he reflects on his own forced displacement when he was just 8 years old.
Living in #Lebanon today, Mahmoud previously worked for over 30 years at an UNRWA school, teaching new generations of Palestine Refugee children.
He hopes the next generation will have the opportunity to live with dignity, and that young Palestine Refugee women and men will be building a better future for themselves and their communities.

Learning must go on.
In UNRWA temporary learning spaces in #Gaza, there are no school desks or fully formed classrooms, yet there remains enough determination for learning to continue.
Alongside in-person learning, UNRWA also uses digital tools to provide literacy and numeracy activities to around 280,000 children in Gaza.
