I am phasing this account out. You are welcome to join my private Mighty Network where you will have access to regular (dare I claim daily?) free advice. Certainly more than I’ve ever posted here!

it’s ok to be tired, today. it’s ok to take things slow. it’s ok if today isn’t super productive. your existence is enough. give yourself grace. give yourself permission to rest. we are not machines.
I’m please to announce my new service Syllabus+
For only 7.99 a semester I’ll tell you the assignments, what to read, how I’ll grade you, and so much more! It’s just like a syllabus but I get paid more to repeat myself 6,000 times a semester. #AcademicChatter
Prep tip for Monday morning: Put your electronic device across the room, or better yet, in another room when you go to bed. Start your day with something other than a screen. #AcademicTwitter#AcademicMentalHealth
Productivity is not your ticket to rest. You are worthy of walking away from your work and taking time for restoration. No level of hustle increases your entitlement. We invite you to rest, relax, and restore.
#SaturdayThoughts@OpenAcademics@thoughtsofaphd@fillthewhole
@YashaSpriha @AcademicChatter If you think about academic writing like any practice (music, yoga, elite athlete training) overexertion one day will result in exhaustion the next. Ease up for steady practice.
What’s one thing you can say no to today? You are more than your work; by saying no to one thing, you say yes to something else. Make room for something that brings you joy and comfort. #mondaythoughts
"[P]eople tend to focus too much effort on creating results and too little on taking steps that will allow the intended results to spontaneously arise." Julia Cameron
Last year I did not drink alcohol for no particular reason other than thinking that it is healthy.
You won't believe how often people asked if I was pregnant.
Can we please stop that?
1.) Not of your business.
2.) When did we start having to explain why we don't drink?
Hi it's September and there are no jobs. I expect this will continue. Trying to emotionally prepare to not have an academic job next year unless I get extremely lucky at the last minute. Be very kind to your contingent colleagues this year. Many of us are losing our careers.
What if we were to create a culture that celebrated people’s brilliance, kindness, and creativity over their ability to work to the point of exhaustion. Show deep gratitude for someone today. The very things we celebrate in others can overwrite this hustle mentality.
