We are launching Uplift, backed by a $7M seed led by @a16z.
We build homes the way cars are built: on a production line.
250 years ago Adam Smith wrote that lodging couldn't travel. A coat is made in one place and worn in another. A home never has. He was right for 250 years. We intend to prove him wrong.
My co-founder @trevoroleary and I built at SpaceX and Tesla. We're applying the same playbook used for Starlink and Cybercab to housing: design for manufacturing, ship volume, drive cost down with each version.
Over the next 3 months we'll deploy our first homes and scale toward a production rate that could rival the largest car companies in the world. Enough volume to house thousands, then millions per year. Enough to move rent.
We are hiring engineers. We are taking orders.
it has been 99 days since @UpliftCorp pitched and won the 2026 @mit100k competition.
Since then we raised a $7M seed led by @a16z, got a factory in Austin TX, hired 10 fantastic engineers / builders, sold our first units, got invited to the HUD Innovative Housing Showcase on the National Mall, and are about to complete the first unit in the new factory that we will show to the world and deliver to a paying customer in September.
wild times and trying to do more
just about 100 days ago we were welding up the frame of our first prototype with just a dream. last night, we did the first welds in our new factory in Austin.
we’ve got a chip and a seat at the table…
Everyone debates whether the US is short 4 or 10 million homes. Wrong fight imo.
Austin has surplus inventory while the Northeast can't build fast enough. The problem isn't the total count, it's that homes can't go where the demand is. Housing should move on demand and it should be dignified and affordable.
the marginal cost of recovering, refurbishing, and redeploying a dignified home must be reduced and then provided at scale
this will make a very meaningful dent on not only the quality of life of our least fortunate, but will ultimately drive the average cost of housing down for all Americans
Alright I am getting into the social media game now
I left @SpaceX's @Starlink last year to build the foundation a dignified life depends on
Millions of people are one disaster, one eviction, one bad month away from having nowhere to go. We're building something engineering-focused and physical for moments like that. At scale in America.
More to come.
