I spent 3 days optimizing an API endpoint to make it 15x faster.
Here are my secrets. 🧵🧵🧵
I faced an issue with an API endpoint for an e-commerce web application that was not scaling well.
Productivity is overrated. What counts most is the quality of output, not the quantity.
People may be impressed by the volume you produce, but impact depends on the value you create.
Success isn't about getting more things done. It's about doing more worthwhile things well.
Startups pay staggering salaries to C-Suite, VPs, and Engineers, etc but in every company there is some 26 year old Operations Associate and that's the person who is holding the entire company together.
Adobe invented what's arguably the most important and revolutionary file format in history, PDF, and then decided to punish all of us with a 3 terabytes piece of software which takes 15 seconds to start and 10 minutes to update, Adobe Reader.
This is a frightening visual for me.
The first dot is the amount of data Chat GPT 3 was trained on.
The second is what chat GPT 4 is trained on.
They are already doing demos.
It can write a 60,000 word book from a single prompt.
The only question I've had about AI…
Starting a new company.
It's called "Cable."
We're going to take all of the streaming services, combine them, put them in one menu, and charge you one simple fee to navigate all of them.
Raising $750m at a $10b valuation.
Building an API to abstract the complexity and make it easy for the client is like cracking the eggshell to make it easy for the chick to come out.
Eventually the chick will not survive alone and neither will the frontend calling that API.
All Abstractions leak.
Since 2011 Peter Thiel has been giving out $100K to college students to drop out and start a company.
Forbes wrote, "Thiel Fellows will create lesser successful companies than degree holders."
10 yrs later, they've founded some of the most breakthrough companies of the decade:

The diagram below shows why 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 and 𝐥𝐨𝐰-𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 applications should not use microservice architecture.
11 ways ChatGPT saves me hours of work every day, and why you'll never outcompete those who use AI effectively.
A list for those who write code:

I just gave ChatGPT 200+ lines of JavaScript code and asked it to translate the code into Python. The code parses text using regular expressions. It was complex.
2 minutes later and I had Python code that worked flawlessly.
This thing just saved me a couple of days of work.
In America I work out everyday and obsess about eating the healthiest foods & I feel not great after most meals.
In Europe, I ate like absolute shit for 2 weeks, didn’t work out once & I’ve never felt healthier.
Simply making food that’s not poison is such a gigantic opportunity
dear lord, please give me the confidence of a 25 year old “venture capitalist” with Twitter Blue & zero exits who just released “23 unstoppable trends that will change your world forever, a 🧵”
