Engaging your sympathetic nervous system more (increased concentration, anxiousness etc…) drops cortisol into blood… increasing HR.
Those who have practised more or “play freely” can rely more heavily on autonomous, muscle memory. Done.

@stspanho I’d hazard thousands of runners imagined this. Even i did before google glass piloted.
However … the novelty would wear off after 3/4th run.
Might work if dropping in other runners GPX on routes / segs or for following routes in hills.
