The one-day summit is coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the Yobe State Government and facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture.

The Yobe Media Summit is underway in Damaturu, bringing together about 400 mainstream and social media practitioners from across the state.

Held under the theme “Harnessing Digital Tools for Community Impact and Engagement,” the summit focuses on equipping media practitioners with digital skills for effective storytelling, community engagement and development communication.

Excerpt from His Excellency’s Speech, I Delivered at the 3-Day Workshop for His Excellency’s Media Assistants.

"As we approach another important democratic cycle, our responsibility is to protect these gains and sustain the stability that made them possible. Our message must therefore be anchored on continuity and consolidation. Development requires consistency. Institutions require stability. Major reforms require time to mature. We must continue building rather than repeatedly beginning again.

At the national level, our party must continue to mobilize support for the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and make the case for continuity of the reform and development agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Our engagement should explain policies and achievements, acknowledge the concerns of citizens, and communicate why sustained political stability and continuity matter to national development. Here in Yobe State, we must equally work collectively and peacefully for the success of all candidates of the All Progressives Congress.

There should be no selective loyalty, internal sabotage or communication that undermines party cohesion. Once our party has presented its candidates, our collective responsibility is to support them within the law and to engage citizens respectfully on the record, programmes and vision we offer.

Let me particularly address those of you responsible for media and communication. Political communication must never become an excuse for insults, misinformation, character assassination, ethnic profiling, religious incitement or the deliberate spread of falsehood. You do not strengthen a government by weakening the peace of the society it governs.

Our administration has invested too much in rebuilding peace and social cohesion for anyone acting in its name to undermine those gains through reckless communication. Therefore, engage with facts. Defend government with evidence.

Correct misinformation with civility. Disagree without insulting. Respect journalists and citizens who ask difficult questions. Do not manufacture achievements; communicate the achievements that exist. Do not turn political opponents into enemies.

Our democracy must remain a contest of ideas, records and visions for the future.
Grassroots mobilization must follow the same principle. Our strongest political argument should be the evidence citizens can see in their communities. Go to the wards and communities.

Listen as much as you speak. Explain government programmes in languages people understand. Engage traditional and religious institutions appropriately, work with youth and women, and ensure that political participation remains voluntary, peaceful and respectful.

Our politics must never threaten the unity of Yobe State. I therefore expect this summit to produce a more professional, coordinated and ethically responsible communication architecture for government and political engagement.

At the end of these two days, participants should leave with improved capacity in strategic communication, crisis communication, fact-checking, digital media management, photography, public engagement and peaceful grassroots mobilization. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we have a record to communicate, a peace to protect, institutions to strengthen and a future to build.

Let our communication reflect the character of the government we represent; calm in leadership, factual in presentation, respectful in engagement, inclusive in politics and confident in our record. Let us consolidate what we have achieved. Let us preserve the unity of our party and our state.

Let us continue to support democratic stability and development in Yobe State and Nigeria"
