@henryolsenEPPC Choosing to create a new type of list of religions for the military in which Christians would be distinguished from other religions was the first own goal.
@chris_kratovil In 1980 I moved to New Haven and was delighted to find a 24-hour bookstore. I thought that this was what the rest of my life would be like.
@BowTiedRanger So why are Jehovah's Witnesses listed as Christian? More to the point, why the hell is the Department of Defense defining which religions are Christian and which aren't? Why not just list the names of the denominations and churches like on previous lists?
@webdevMason Good point! But even if the Defense Department didn't make a major cock-up out of it, I still wouldn't want them drawing a line around what's Christian and what's not.
@kylebeshears ... together as Lutheran?
They don't share "altar fellowship" (their pastors cannot preach in each other's pulpits) and their members can't officially take communion together. One is extremely progressive, the other rigidly conservative.
@kylebeshears I don't think we're talking about the same thing when I say difference and you say diversity. (The different words could have been a clue.) The fact that the ELCA and the LCMS are literally as different as two churches can be and both be Protestant means they should be lumped ..
@kylebeshears Is there any evidence that chaplains had found the longer list difficult to work with? Honestly, is there? It's interesting that no one in the DoD has even claimed it. Both Hegseth and Parnell just present the logic of their reasons--they never attribute this to chaplains.
@kylebeshears Someone making the decision might have thought they were being respectful to Mormons? Wouldn't this be a damning thing to say about the policy-making process? Who was on this "independent review committee," what expertise did they have? (And were they incapable of research?)
@OswaldRErnst@AllanRicharz@20committee And you think there's rot why? Right, because you believe a myth that has been sold to you by Donald Trump. Since I don't subscribe to that myth, there's probably no point in further discussion.
@TeamYOLOJosh@AllanRicharz@20committee We're not talking about "commies"--unless this is just a catch-all phrase for everyone you don't like. We're talking about the professionals who make up the intelligence community. And every time there are major lay-offs in any industry there are people who are desperate.
@WizZifnab@The_FJC@MattFinnFNC@grumpybbee Well, they could for example observe whether the signature verifiers are actually looking at each envelope and referring to their screens for comparison. They could watch for the arrival of the mythical "mystery ballots."
@MatthewJudkins_@DAILYCONTROVERS@BasedMikeLee But it's not the job of the US military to categorize religions and say what is Christian and what is not. Why not just list denominations? It worked in the past.
@DAILYCONTROVERS@BasedMikeLee It's not the job of the US military to draw a line between what is Christian and what is not. This new list format is a very bad idea.
@BasedMikeLee You are right to bring this up, Senator Lee. It is not the job of the US military to categorize religions. This new format of "Christian - ......." is a very bad idea. Why not just list the denominations directly by name, as was done in the past?
