🏠✨ The Constitutional Court has ruled in favour of Ndifuna Ukwazi and Reclaim the City, alongside community activists and residents.
✅ Governments have a constitutional duty to end spatial inequality
✅ The “right to the city” is a constitutional right
✅ Public land must serve the public good
This is a landmark win for dignity, justice, and housing in well located areas.

It made me think of something Luyanda ka Msumza said at the launch of AP Mda’s selected writings, Africa’s Cause Must Triumph (Msumza is one of the editors): some male activists married powerful activist women to remove them from political life. Eppainette was the second black woman to join the SACP. That’s how they met. Hmm!
Scolding people that book piracy is wrong doesn't make you revolutionary. This is not a defence, but your simple stance doesn't solve anything. As an author, writers deserve to be paid. But I believe if you are so invested in capitalism that you refuse to recognise the nuance (1)

most of us were raised in households where our mothers and grandmothers had to stretch money to get us through school, buy groceries and still take care of themselves. a woman being the breadwinner in this country is not new or shocking, its been the norm in many black households
Artists are being asked to not only create the art but to market it, promote it, package it, pitch it, fund it, and perform it. To show up online. To be vulnerable. To be consistent. To be visible.
I’m in agreement but the truth is South Africa barely has a true middle class anymore. “Middle class” is now just people surviving on credit, debt, and fragile income streams. Zero wealth, managed vulnerability. You are right to say many are so closer to asset loss, unemployment, or financial collapse than to anything resembling generational security.
The economy is pinching everyone, but the real problem is, most people won’t recognise the depth of the system until it personally disrupts their lives. Proximity to comfort feels like safety… until it doesn’t.
So I need the “middle class” to wake up to the eggs before they’re actually below the poverty line.
Guys, my sister has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and over 3 years experience. She hasn’t gotten a stable job in over 10 years now of applying. She’s now lost hope and she has two kids to feed. 😔
Please advise or recommend something, please retweet too. 🙏🏼
Always remember that capitalism is a lie. You deserve food, shelter and drink because you exist. You do not have to earn them. You do not need to prove your worth through labor and you are not lazy for hating it.
Kwakhanya Mhlanganisi, 16, was allegedly murdered by two teenagers in Site C, Khayelitsha, on 4 December 2025. It is alleged that Kwakhanya was murdered in a homophobic attack, as he was part of the queer community.
It is alleged that two teenagers attempted to rob him, and after an initial altercation, the group reportedly chased after Kwakhanya, assaulted him with a brick, and then placed a bucket over his body and set it alight, causing severe burns. Kwakhanya later succumbed to his injuries.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murder. Another suspect, also believed to be a teenager, has not yet been arrested. This hate crime once again highlights the horrific realities faced by the LGBTQI+ community. We are heartbroken by the loss of yet another beautiful soul. When is enough, enough? #WomenForChange #UnburyTheTruth
Today, we reminded the nation that our voices cannot be ignored.
Thank you @womenforchange5 for leading this powerful and historic stand against GBV. ✊🏾💜
