Wonderful to have the opportunity to speak at the All Party Parliamentary Group on Vascular and Venous Disease's annual drop-in event yesterday. It was a very productive event, & going forward we have a strong community that is buying into the work that the @VAPPG is leading on.
What’s happening in the lower limb vascular sector …
Collaborations.. alliances and an increasingly proactive @RoyColPod encouraging & enabling our 10000 membership to become PAD & CLTI diagnosis & treatment champions 🫛 🛜 🦵 🫀
Thank you @svig2 for all you do
What’s happening in the Vascular Sector?
Well, quite a lot actually.
Today was the latest step in the journey to reforming the sector: our Annual Parliamentary Drop In.
Friends and colleagues from across the sector met with MPs and Peers to chat all things vascular.
Could you use your voice to help strengthen the IR community?
Nominations are now open for the BSIR Committee Elections 2026, with opportunities available for both Full Members and Trainee Members.
In this video, @DrNeilGuptaIR shares why being involved with BSIR matters.
For Neil, BSIR provides a valuable opportunity to connect with consultants across the country, understand what is happening nationally and be part of a collective of like-minded individuals who care about the future of interventional radiology.
Committee involvement is also a chance to share what we do, learn from others and help improve the specialty for patients, colleagues and the wider IR community.
Through BSIR, members can contribute to important conversations across education, training, research and professional standards, while building strong professional connections along the way.
If you are interested in getting more involved, representing IR and helping move the specialty forward, we encourage you to consider standing.
Nominations close Friday 22nd May.

Thanks to Officers & Members who attended, and wider Parliamentary attendees. Thank you for taking an interest in this really important area of healthcare.
And thanks to our chair @JimShannonMP for hosting and the warm welcome, & to @svig2 for her ongoing championing.

Vascular people in 🇬🇧 who are recruiting into the @NIHRresearch KID trial...this is it. 10 weeks left. One patient per site this week 🤔💪🏻😊...there's now way we can't do this!
Great to see PAD covered on @BBCMorningLive this morning.
Really important area, that is often overlooked (vascular seems to be the the AOB of cardiovascular).
VVAPPG (alongside partners across the system) recently published a report on the need for reform - link below.
🦵 Leg pain isn’t always just part of ageing.
Dr Xand explains peripheral arterial disease, the signs to watch for, like pain when walking that eases with rest, and why early checks matter.

Thank you for your leadership on this, Jim.
It’s been a truly collaborative effort across the sector, and you & Parliamentary colleagues across our Officers and Members Group are key to this important work and it’s success.
Through our work on the @VAPPG, we’ve heard from patients & clinicians about the challenges facing vascular services. This report makes one thing clear - variation in care is costing lives. It’s time to deliver consistent, high-quality care.
