1/ A 🧵about @vp@KamalaHarris and #Care:
In 2017, when Harris joined the Senate, she immediately signed on as an original co-sponsor of the #FAMILYAct, to create a national #PaidLeave program. Some new senators sit on the sidelines, she didn't!

Thank you and congratulations to you, @TeamFreedomVA, and all the advocates across Virginia who never gave up and made this win possible. #PaidLeaveForAll
Virginia's #PaidLeave bill has now passed! Eight long years of work plus some before that. Congrats to @JenniferBoysko & @BriannaSewell for their incredible leadership! And thank you in advance to @SpanbergerForVA for signing this bill!
Virginia employees are one step closer to a future where taking time off to care for themselves or a loved one doesn't mean choosing between their health and their paycheck.
A new paid family and medical leave insurance program will give workers the peace of mind to step away when it matters most, without sacrificing financial security.
“This is a win-win for working families and businesses. It’s a win for the economy because it means more people can be working. They have more money to spend on goods and services,” says @VShabo, about the program.

President Trump says he “lifted 2 mil people off food stamps.” He didn’t solve hunger — he cut what families rely on to survive. That’s not success. That’s abandonment. https://t.co/LQfcooTQgv
Let's be clear: the Trump administratoin did not "lift a record number of people off of food stamps."
Trump and Republicans in Congress made a historic cut to SNAP, and now a millions of families are hungry.
This is big. In a legislative and political landscape that is so bleak, this is something we can come to consensus on. It's something tangible we can do to help vulnerable families. Thank you to our partners @ABetterBalance and lead sponsor @RepPettersen.

I have looked at this child's photo probably 100 times over the last week, and each time, my heart sticks in my throat. His little hat with the ears and the pompoms. His face - trying so hard not to cry, when he must be so scared. There are monsters among us.
The D.C.-area has more than 6 million residents. The Washington Post's Metro staff needs to keep uncovering critical news for this massive region. These reporters produce incredible journalism everyday and this coverage is critical to the Post.
A must-read message from Colin and Sophie Hortman, Mark and Melissa's children, about the untruthful conspiracy video President Trump shared yesterday:
Care isn’t niche—it’s everyday life.

With thanks to @BradWilcoxIFS for kicking some ideas around with me and @VShabo's awesome work on media depictions of care. (And as always, to @petersuderman and @SonnyBunch for being the reason I see so many movies in the first place.) https://t.co/Kn50qA0h7l
