Earlier today, Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj stated that a viral video purportedly showing Bhagwant Mann under the influence of alcohol and sprinkling droplets on photographs of the Guru Sahibs was examined by two prominent laboratories, which reportedly concluded that the video was neither fake nor AI-generated.

Reverence towards the Guru Sahibs and Sikh maryada is non-negotiable.

The statements made by the Akal Takht today are therefore likely to have far-reaching political and social consequences.

DR. BAIDYANATH GHOSH DASTIDAR HAS ISSUED A LEGAL NOTICE TO FORMER WEST BENGAL CHIEF MINISTER MAMATA BANERJEE, TMC MPS KALYAN BANERJEE, SOUGATA ROY AND MAHUA MOITRA, ALONG WITH FORMER TMC LEADER SONALI GUHA, ALLEGING THAT FALSE AND DEFAMATORY STATEMENTS WERE MADE AGAINST HIM.

In the notice, Dr. Ghosh Dastidar, a psychiatrist, has denied claims that he sought a TMC ticket from the Barasat Assembly constituency or that he had any political aspirations. He has asserted that, instead, TMC functionaries and representatives associated with political consultancy efforts had repeatedly approached him and encouraged him to contest the election.

The notice claims that TMC leaders, including Barasat district president Soham Pal, and others allegedly contacted him several times and visited him to persuade him to enter politics. It further states that he had declined a professional opportunity at a Birmingham-based NHS trust amid these developments.

Dr. Ghosh Dastidar has also objected to remarks allegedly made by Kalyan Banerjee in a television interview and statements by Sonali Guha, including allegations regarding his personal conduct, calling them false, baseless and damaging to his reputation.

THROUGH THE LEGAL NOTICE, HE HAS DEMANDED THAT THE RECIPIENTS CEASE MAKING SUCH REFERENCES, WITHDRAW AND RETRACT THE ALLEGED DEFAMATORY STATEMENTS, AND ISSUE A PUBLIC CLARIFICATION AND APOLOGY WITHIN 15 DAYS. FAILING THIS, HE HAS RESERVED THE RIGHT TO INITIATE CIVIL, CRIMINAL AND OTHER LEGAL PROCEEDINGS.
