The stouthearted Thames Chase Volunteers have been out and about again! This week saw them return to Valence House to carry on with their weeding and mulching around the main house as well as tidying piles of woodchip.
It was nice to see the magnificent tulip tree in the grounds in full leaf - come back in a month or so to see its beautiful tulip shaped flowers. They were also joined by ladybirds, doc beetles and one or two surprised frogs and toads!
An excellent turnout of fourteen volunteers certainly tested our tea making skills at lunchtime. Thanks again to all the volunteers who make this work such a pleasure to do.

Glad to see you are dressed and ready for the deep clean Nigel, but let’s at least have Christmas first!! Just a reminder that today is our last opening day and we will reopen on Tuesday 3rd February following an intense deep clean🧼
Have a lovely Christmas everyone🎅🏼
Nigel, you do realise you don’t have to climb all the way to the top of the box to donate your coins? Although it is fun watching them trickle down! A huge thanks to our generous visitors who have contributed towards £1,109 raised so far this year in donations✨
#elfontheshelf
Love to see you getting involved in the dressing up & role play Nigel, just like the children have enjoyed doing during the whopping 82 school visits we have had this year!
#elfontheshelf#museumelf
No job can start without a morning brew first! It’s great that you’re helping with the Visitor Centre roof repairs, but don’t forget the Elf & Safety rules!!
#elfontheshelf#museumelf
Nigel, we really don’t think you should be sitting on the same branch you’re sawing?! Let’s leave it to the professionals who will be working hard to restore our lovely medieval moat next year.
#elfontheshelf#museumelf
Wait a minute.. since when do we have an elf from the late Neolithic period? Hmmm, perhaps a bit more ‘idle’ than idol, eh Nigel?
#elfontheshelf#museumelf#dagenhamidol
Nigel! We know there’s a great selection of toys and presents at the Valence House gift shop, but we’re pretty sure Elves are supposed to MAKE them for the children!
#elfontheshelf#museumelf
📮Oh dear Nigel, this is not what ‘Come along and post your letters to Santa’ means! Hopefully the children will be more sensible and post proper letters with a name and (clearly-written) return address by Weds 17th Dec if they’d like Santa to reply!📬
#museumelf#elfontheshelf
We can see you Nigel, you’re not the only star of the show now! There are 11 stars to find that are hiding in the museum, along with some bonus objects. You’ve got until Saturday 20th December to find them all and earn yourself a sweet treat. GO GO GO!
#elfontheshelf#museumelf
Nigel.. The cupcake decorating session is TOMORROW!! While we are glad to see you are ready for Santa’s visit, how many times do we have to tell you, NO eating in the museum!
If you did want to join Nigel in visiting Santa tomorrow, call us on 0208 227 2034🎅🏼

Was bloody freezing out but we had a great evening at the @ValenceHouse music quiz. Came joint 4th in the end, won a raffle prize and enjoyed singing aling to the Christmas music bingo.
Looks like Nigel’s arrived early this year, just in time for tomorrow’s SEND to Santa and Christmas wreath making! We knew he wouldn’t let us down.. love your wreath Nigel!
