Looking at this chart, Valko’s launch in July 2026 would’ve been perfect timing to push the game and its revenue by attracting new players – regardless of all the missing content. Sooner or later, to bring back that peak you always see in July (or make it even bigger!), they would’ve had to introduce a new LI anyway or at least drop some huge update (which they didn’t have lol, so Valko would’ve come in very handy, he was literally the update together with the kitchen).

Given that the playerbase has grown over time and Love and Deepspace has become more popular, his debut would likely have been the biggest of all. And this has nothing to do with his looks or popularity per se, but simply with the size of the playerbase at that point.

This ties into the popularity arcs of 🐦‍⬛ and 🍎: the debut numbers of 🐦‍⬛were lower than of 🍎 because the game was still less known back then. Plus 🍎 also had an already existing fanbase, as people have been patiently waiting for him to finally become a LI.

Valko, launching later into a bigger, more established playerbase, would therefore PROBABLY have outperformed both. BUT if his numbers had still been lower than both of theirs, that would’ve been a major red flag 🚩for investors, especially if people actively boycotted his cards. Maybe that was part of their fear: even if it’s a loud minority shouting, some players were also unsure about Valko and a weak debut could have looked like rejection.

Now, many have made up their minds. Still not all, but we’ve had more time to process and to fall for him, even though we barely know any of his lore yet. What we have now is already a pretty well-established fanbase for Valko that’s ready to spend. That gives Papergames a better guarantee that, if he ever debuts, there will be a lot of money flowing into Valko-related content.

Maybe, in a strange way, they actually saved him by not fully introducing him just yet. Investors always look at numbers, not gossip, because numbers speak for themselves and can be used to back up or undermine any narrative about Valko, whether it’s positive or negative.

Those are my thoughts on this…

My hill I’ll die on with infold and this whole silence situation is, the silence and how they’re moving could be valid means to get Valko back but they have not earned the trust and good will of the players to be able to do that AND keep the servers open.

If they can’t tell us outright what they’re doing? Fine. Move how you need to move. Get your legal shit together. But then, don’t try to have your cake and eat it to by pushing out rerun banners, keeping the servers open and try to squeeze out money from boycotters.

Close the servers for maintenance. They could have had a neutral PR statement that gave no fuel for antis but a clear indication that things are happening behind closed doors. It would have made sense for both antis and pro-Valko fans for infold to take a break. Antis wouldn’t be able to twist it because it could be explained away as yeah well you just deleted 1/6th of your cast you need time to adjust the schedule. Meanwhile they could have bought time to pursue legal action. But no. They haven’t learned shit in that regard.

So yeah I think the silence right now is necessary to get Valko back. But it did not have to have the added insult of just not acknowledging the fallout at all.

(The ONLY exception to this I can think of is the theory that they may be using the damages for a legal defamation case. Which isn’t impossible but to me is way more speculative for me to personally go with)
