At Vilnius Summit in 2013, Ukrainian President Yanukovych refused to sign EU association agreement.

He came and said that Russia was threatening economic sanctions, and that they would lose billions of dollars if they moved further toward Europe.

We talked to him, and Germany and Merkel agreed that we would find these additional billions from European budget to cover sanctions from Russian side.

Then he again said: "No, I cannot sign." And it was clear that he was frightened and under personal pressure, even facing physical threats.

So it was clear. And for all of us, it was a surprise, it was upsetting for all of Ukraine, and because of that, Maidan appeared.

Irada Zeynalova, Russia’s ambassador to Mauritius, said at the forum that Muslims make up 30% of Russia’s population.

Shortly afterwards, Putin stated that Muslims make up around 10–15% of the population.

Human Rights Council member Kirill Kabakov then declared that ���the question is closed once and for all”:

“All discussions and claims that there are 20, 25, or even 30 percent Muslims in Russia must be stopped once and for all. Leading representatives of the Muslim world themselves recognize us as an Orthodox country.”
