These numbers reveal three realities that are hard to dismiss in my opinion.

1. Trust in the aviation system is strong enough that people keep buying tickets, even at higher fares.
2. Purchasing power among the middle class and business community is real. Air travel is chosen because it delivers speed and higher ROI on time-sensitive deals.
3. A new cohort has entered the market. Upward mobility is visible in who can now afford to fly.

Yes, insecurity and terrible roads exist. Those are serious problems. They are not the primary economic drivers of this growth. People fly more when they have the means and the confidence that the plane will take off and land.

Demand is the hardest metric to argue against. Reading many comments below, we are wired for negativity and don’t often know when to celebrate or criticize.

Very few #8’s have the capacity to supersede tactics.

Whether that be by being too difficult to press (Bernardo), dictating games with their passing (Kroos), a creative influence (Iniesta), an elite box-crasher who can score from range (Lampard), or an abnormal defender (Kanté).

Some roll all of that into one, albeit not necessarily at an elite level in every single regard (Gerrard, Bellingham, Rice, Modric, Xavi).

Bruno Guimarães fits the latter description. Complete midfielder. He can do it ALL!

Now that he has joined an elite club, it’s time for him to show that he belongs in the conversations with Premier League greats.

Pedro Neto is a downgrade on Savinho. You cannot sell a player because he hasn’t reached the levels you expected and then replace him with someone who offers less/way too similar levels of output. Moving sideways whilst convincing yourself it’s progress = jumping over piss to step in shit.

Enzo Fernández does not fit anything this club is trying to build. Not the profile, not the temperament, not the price bracket. A midfielder who is neither an elite controller nor an elite runner/dueller bar his box crashing abilities, at a ridiculous fee that would swallow the budget we need for a genuine right back/a winger or both. Absolutely not.

And Malo Gusto? We passed on Givairo Read, a younger, more dynamic, higher ceiling right back we have monitored for two summers, only to consider spending ridiculous money on a lesser profile. Explain the logic. You cannot. There isn’t any.

When you lose a Rodri, a Bernardo, a Stonesy, an Ake, you do not fill those gaps with names. You fill them with quality that raises the technical floor of this squad. Every incoming has to be better than what walked out, or at minimum offer a dimension we do not currently possess.

Chelsea recycling their squad through Manchester City should not be encouraged by brilliant people.

Bouaddi. A proper right back. Give Mcaidoo his chance. Spend the money on players who make us better, please.
