@EddieComeaux@GlobalSportMtrs Life after college as an athlete can be very puzzling for most because the goal is to play professionally. In reality, that is not the case for most which leaves an emptiness when graduating. Therefore, creating support centers and checking on their mental health is essential.
@Tiffany97182396 @besavageee yes, athletes should be able to voice their opinions and concern especially when they are the ones that are playing the sport.
HBCUs have been consistently graduating at a lower rate than HWCUs which calls for a need to be more academically focused and culturally responsive to intercollegiate athletic culture. @besavageee#ucr150
@LauraJThompson7@besavageee They mislead young adults into thinking that it is as simple as that; getting an education while pursuing their dreams in sports. In actuality, nothing is ever that simple. #ucr150@besavageee
The term student-athlete is just a guise for the NCAA to take advantage of and commercialize athletes. Athletic programs claim they care about their education but are overworking them.

@kimberlynunez03@besavageee Yes, it may vary from person to person since there are a lot of different factors that play in this process. But I am glad you had it a little easier.
It is so restrictive that the student-athlete has to complete at least 1 full year until they are allowed to be released from the institution. Or else they can lose 1 year of athletic eligibility. #ucr150@besavageee
@Adriana_Orozco7 @besavageee Yes! Even a minor injury can turn into a bigger injury which is not what anyone wants. Better to check it out and get tested before anything worse happens. #ucr150@besavageee
It is so unfortunate that baseline testing, especially in neuropsychological test scores is lacking in reliability and validity. Athletes' health should go first before anything else. #ucr150@besavageee
@i_aguayo2@besavageee They instill that Title IX will bring reform, but also say that they can't afford the financial cost to treat everyone the same. #ucr150@besavageee
Title IX has given women opportunities and has led to some college athlete rights reform, but it still does not solve other important policies regarding the inequity of all athletes. #ucr150@besavageee
@Adriana_Orozco7 @besavageee These college athletes are being misled and used as a commodity for the benefit of the organization rather than the athletes themselves. #ucr150@besavageee
The CCA, the NCAA, and other schools affiliated with the NLI are exploiting these college athletes giving them no room for negotiation. #ucr150@besavageee
@ynavarro091@besavageee Living costs and college are getting more expensive. Is being a student-athlete worth the obstacles that they may go through especially since there is a possibility that they will be let go so quickly and have no control over that.
The NCAA is taking advantage of these athletes and is taking the passion from enjoying the sport. Amateurism was first defined as purely enjoying the sport they participate in but now it has been a money-making scheme.
#ucr150@besavageee
@Mandoiba@besavageee I totally agree with you that student-athletes go through so much but do not get recognized for their dedication and effort. Through the 1990s, athletes just had to do what they were told to do.#ucr150@besavageee
College athletes are just not being compensated enough for the amount of work and time they put in. They devote about 40 hours each week on top of their school and personal loads. #ucr150@besavageee
