Are these light-scattering dots plasma EVs or lipoproteins? Using conventional NTA, there is no way to tell. In our latest work, we found that a new technology called interferometric NTA (iNTA) can distinguish EVs from lipoproteins in a label-free manner.

@aquicarattino@ISEV_Journals@SandoghdarLab In all the EVs from different cell lines as well as plasma and urine samples that we have measured until now, we found a very similar RI distribution. But I guess there's only one way to find out: feel free to ship them over if you have some hemoglobin-enriched EVs!

@Anya_Kashkanova I really enjoyed addressing this issue together. This should be just the beginning and I'm excited to see how iNTA will evolve in the future!
I was very lucky to collaborate on this project with @Anya_Kashkanova and Martin Blessing of the @SandoghdarLab, the bright minds behind iNTA, and in return introduced them to the @ISEVorg meeting. They will now forever be known as the faces of the ISEV2022 party photo album 🥳
We thus established iNTA as a unique physical EV characterization tool that allows label-free discrimination of EVs and lipoproteins in solution, down to a size of ~30 nanometer 🧐🫧
