New data on basalt weathering for the tropical region, based on a climosequence from the #Galapagos Islands. In addition to the climatic effect, the rock porosity can strongly enhance basalt weathering. https://t.co/z2r7kZL5k8 @frsFNRS@Figempa_UCE @ELI_UCLouvain @GeologyNow
As vegetation distributions are dynamically changing as result of warming temperatures and land use change, these changes have important implications on soil hydrology, weathering rates and solute export with effects on nutrient concentrations in Andean rivers and mountain lakes.
Happy to share our recent work on high-elevation tropical Andean ecosystems where we show how vegetation patterns are associated with nutrient availability and supply https://t.co/VINig747pX @udecuenca @ELI_UCLouvain @uniGoettingen@ETAPAOficial
Field campaign of SoilScapeBasalt project @frsFNRS@lacentralec @ELI_UCLouvain succesfully completed with good set of soil and rock samples, updated hydrometeo datasets, and a delicious tuna ceviche ! Great collaboration with @Figempa_UCE - Sede Galapagos and @parquegalapagos

Descubrimientos en la Amazonía ecuatoriana. 🍃
Para contextualizar y aclarar la información vertida por ciertos medios de comunicación, señalando que arqueólogos franceses “han descubierto” una antigua ciudad en la amazonía ecuatoriana. 1/10

Erosive flash floods (huaycos) can transport vast quantities of sediment towards the coastal plains, and monitoring of these phenomena will be key during El Niño events.
Monitoring geomorphic events at high spatial and temporal resolution is now possible, even in areas with poor accessibility. With our colleagues from @pucp and @eli_uclouvain we monitored topographic changes in huayco-prone areas in the Peruvian Andes. @ARESfwb_be
In hotspots of geomorphic change we report erosion rates of about 9500 t/km²/yr based on 4D topographic monitoring with UAV-PPK-SfM techniques.
