Early flood warnings save lives but depend on strong systems and swift action.

Through the European Commission for Humanitarian Aid Operations @eu_echo (ECHO) funded and UNDP-managed Community Flood Early Warning Systems (CFEWS) project, critical streamflow data is being collected. This real-time information is shared with national authorities such as the Meteorological Office and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management, enabling them to analyze risks and issue warnings.

This chain of information is a vital step toward national flood preparedness.

Under the European Commission for Humanitarian Aid Operations @eu_echo (ECHO) funded and UNDP managed Community Flood Early Warning Systems (CFEWS) project, equipment that assists in gathering real-time flood data continues to be installed across Trinidad and Tobago.

These systems equip authorities with the information needed to issue faster, more accurate warnings for weather related riverine events. This expansion is a leap forward in strengthening national flood preparedness and protecting vulnerable communities.

The ECHO funded CFEWS project Phases 1 and 2 sites are part of a wider network created in partnership with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management, Tobago Emergency Management Authority, the Water Resources Agency, and the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government.
