Last night, that World Cup story ended in the cruelest way this tournament can end, a single goal, in stoppage time, against a 41-year-old who covered every blade of grass anyway.

But that was never going to be the whole story. It's in a kid who left Madeira with nothing and became the most decorated player of his generation. It's in a captain who kept working long after the world expected him to slow down. It's in a billion people who never stopped calling him theirs.

Some things aren't measured in trophies. Thank you for every minute of it, Cristiano.

Anwar Jalalpuri was an acclaimed Urdu poet, scholar, and English lecturer from Uttar Pradesh who honed his literary genius at Aligarh Muslim University. He achieved widespread fame for his 'Nizamat' and became highly regarded for translating sacred and classical texts, including the Bhagavad Gita, Gitanjali, and parts of the Quran, into Urdu. Beyond his literary pursuits, Jalalpuri held prominent public administrative positions, serving on various committees and ultimately rising to the rank of a State Minister. His extensive contributions across poetry, prose, and television dialogues earned him numerous prestigious awards from various cultural academies. This influential literary and public figure passed away on January 2, 2018, in Lucknow.

Mirza Raza Barq (1790–1857) was a leading master of the Lucknow School of Urdu poetry, recognized for his adoption of Naasikh’s style and his precise use of similes. He held complete command over the ghazal, while also writing extensively in forms like rubai, qataat, mukhammas, Shahar-e-Ashob, and Wasokht. His definitive collected works, the Diwan, were published by Matba-e-Sultani. As an influential educator, Barq directly shaped the tradition by mentoring a new generation of famous poets, including Syed Zamin Ali Jalaal, Sheikh Amaan Ali Seher, and Haadi Ali Ashk.
