Somos a floresta, somos a história, somos todos Silva. 🇧🇷❤️

Cuba's University of Havana kicked off the school year on Monday, where at least 4,000 new students have started their academic journeys.
But this new academic year will present students with even more difficulties, as Trump's fuel blockade brings more frequent blackouts and the administration continues to tighten its chokehold on the island.
Still, students who spoke to BT were eager to return to the classroom and expressed commitment to their studies, in a country where education, from early childhood to university, is guaranteed as a universal right for its citizens.

After US Ambassador to the UN Mike Walz accused Cuba of repressing and imprisoning political dissidents, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla fired back.
Presenting a photograph of Renee Nicole Good to the UN General Assembly, he states bluntly to Waltz, "This woman cannot be released from jail – because she was murdered by ICE."
Showing image after image of ICE raids and repression of protestors, Rodríguez Parrilla says simply, "This isn't Cuba. This is in the US."
Madame Celeste Amarilla,
Eight activists were handed a combined 450 years in prison for protesting ICE.
Federal prosecutors argued they were part of a domestic terrorist conspiracy tied to "Antifa."

‼️🇵🇸CEASEFIRE AND CAPTIVES-FOR-PRISONERS SWAP DEAL REACHED BETWEEN ISRAEL AND HAMAS
After 15 months of genocide, the Qatari Prime Minister confirmed in a press conference that a ceasefire deal has finally been reached. The ceasefire will take effect this Sunday, January 19, and the deal will put an end to Israel’s non-stop genocidal attacks on the Palestinian people in Gaza. During the last 15 months, at least 47,000 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks - the real number is likely much higher as there are still tens of thousands of people missing under the rubble.
The deal consists of three phases and each phase will have different stipulations regarding the halt in attacks, the release of Israeli captives for Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from certain regions and corridors, an increase in humanitarian aid trucks entering the strip, and the eventual re-opening of border crossings. The guarantors of the agreement are Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.
The Israeli cabinet and government will meet tomorrow to vote on the agreement.
Celebrations erupted across Gaza as news of the deal broke.
🇪🇨 Ecuador is in mourning after the government confirmed that the four charred corpses found near an army base were the four Ecuadorian children kidnapped by military forces on December 8.
Ismael Arroyo and Josué Arroyo (15 and 14 years old), Saúl Arboleda (15 years old), and Steven Medina (11 years old) were picked up and kidnapped by military forces patrolling the south of Guayaquil, on December 8. Videos and testimonies show that the military forces beat the children; they were never seen again.
The government only responded to the events after the case blew up on social media and sparked popular outrage against the armed forces in the country. People are also affirming that this case of forced disappearance corresponds to a larger phenomenon mainly targeting Black and poor communities in the country.
Government officials tried to cover up and deflect blame from the military in different manners by saying that the children were involved in a robbery, for which there is no evidence. President Noboa, on December 21, before the children were declared dead, proposed to name them National Heroes. Meanwhile, in response to heavy criticism, ministers of the government have accused opposition political forces of "taking advantage" of the tragedy to discredit the government.

NORITA CORTIÑAS: MOTHER OF ALL THE STRUGGLES
Norita Cortiñas, a founding member of Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo (Founding Line) and a tireless fighter for human rights in Argentina and across the world passed away at the age of 94. Cortiñas is known across Argentina and the globe for her fierce dedication to joining every protest, march, meeting, and action in defense of the oppressed and marginalized, even in her old age and during the pandemic.
Norita joined the struggle during the brutal civic-military dictatorship in Argentina after her son Gustavo Cortiñas was forcibly disappeared. Along with other mothers and relatives of disappeared people, Cortiñas went to the Plaza de Mayo in the center of Buenos Aires every Thursday to demand truth and justice about her son, despite severe repression. She died without knowing the truth about what happened to her son.
Her struggle and her example have inspired millions and her legacy lives on in all those who fight for memory, truth, and justice.
¡Norita Cortiñas, presente! ¡Ahora y siempre!
Nora Cortiñas, present!
