Breaking: Witness the situation in Punjab Professors level serious allegations, reporting that women's clothes were torn and they were subjected to rough handling. Professors are recording a video from inside the Bathinda Sadar police station.
Assistant profs from @1158APFront5aab taken into custody on #TeachersDay when they along with many other teacher categories came out to show black flags to CM #BhagwantMann at Bathinda, one female assistant prof fainted in melee
Protesters carrying black flags also reached Bathinda and welcomed the Chief Minister upon his arrival. Professors and teachers broke through the barricades and moved forward.
For 3 decades, Punjab's government colleges have faced a severe shortage of professors.
Today, education is being increasingly centralised through the national education framework, limiting the states' ability to shape policies according to their own needs.
I have submitted a Resolution in the Punjab Legislative Assembly seeking to restore Education to the State List. I urge all MLAs to support it unanimously so Punjab can fight for its constitutional rights, including through the appropriate legal forum. @mkstalin@MahuaMoitra

Before elections, they chanted "We stand with 1158." After elections, the same leaders shrug and say "It's a court issue." The mic changed, but the struggle didn't. These 1158 individuals didn't vote for excuses they voted for dignity, justice, and action. A promise made on a stage doesn't expire the moment the votes are counted. If you had the courage to take credit before elections, have the accountability to deliver after. Silence is not governance. Deflection is not leadership. The people are watching and they remember every word. 👇 Tag those responsible. Share until it reaches every corner of Punjab.

Aam Aadmi Party’s ‘#SikhyaKranti’: New Labels, Old Neglect in the Politics of Education Revolution”
Rebranding without reform is not change—it’s repetition with better PR.
From Adarsh Schools (Captain govt) to Meritorious Schools (Badal govt) to now “Schools of Eminence” under Bhagwant Mann, the promise was “different politics.” The reality remains the same: not one of these models has been backed by permanent teacher recruitment.
While @harjotbains and the CM @BhagwantMann frequently highlight NEET/JEE successes, those results largely come from Meritorious Schools—where the very teachers delivering them have waited over 4 years for regularization, with repeated assurances but no policy. Despite being chairman of the governing body, the CM Bhagwant Mann has not held even a single meeting with the Meritorious Teachers’ Union @MTU_PUNJAB
“Schools of Eminence” appear to be more about repainting and renaming, while teachers are simply shifted from other schools—no new posts created, no fresh recruitment.
The implied model: shut down many schools, selectively upgrade a few, and market them as an “Education Revolution.”
Ground reality: out of approximately 1950 government senior secondary schools in Punjab, over 1000 operate without principals.
In Sangrur alone, the CM Bhagwant Mann’s own district, 65 of 95 schools function without a principal.
If this is a “Sikhya Kranti,” it is one of presentation—not policy.
