@MBTA on the red line from central to Harvard. Why are we going so slowly?? Definitely not because of a train in front - we waited more than 10 minutes at south station for a train. Genuinely curious

@DeanBaker13 Add to this increasingly weak pay for post docs and junior faculty as compared with industry positions and the best minds are only focused to applied work rather than the foundation for tomorrow’s breakthroughs /end
@DeanBaker13 One of our greatest failures is reduced R&D spend. The obvious outcome is lack of new discoveries, but in addition is the industrialization of academic research. Universities see their IP portfolio as revenue generating and thus incentivize more applied research 2/
@SoCalCMH@NGrossman81 Sadly, this country has reached a place where the certitude of knowing things are 'wrongly decided' allows no room for any respect for the other half of the country that disagrees with that certitude /end
@SoCalCMH@NGrossman81 The majority in Casey even goes so far as to cite Brown to say that the legitimacy of the court depends on not overturning precedent simply because the composition of the court changes. 4/
@NGrossman81 It's interesting to read Brown and realize how restrained the ruling is. It really only applies this logic to public education and then returns the cases to lower courts to rehear with the added guidance that Plessy doesn't apply 2/
@bourne0513@thisone0verhere p.s. love the Centronics printer in the pics here. I remember having one of those as well and probably spending massive $$ printing weird text based graphics #privelege
@bourne0513@thisone0verhere As a kid, I remember playing some random text based games - one a civil war game and another one that was a star trek game. Even writing this is making me realize how formative the experience of having this in the house was. /end
