Prof. M. Srinivas, Member, NITI Aayog, as Chief Guest, delivered Keynote address at the ‘National Consultation on Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction in India: From Evidence to Action’, organized by ICMR-National Institute Of Cancer Prevention & Research.
Prof. M. Srinivas exhorted that India's response to tobacco and nicotine addiction must be guided by science. Nicotine, irrespective of its delivery mechanism, poses significant risks, particularly to children and young people.
He further emphasised that as new nicotine products emerge, policies, regulations, and public health strategies must evolve with equal urgency to protect future generations and advance the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

They also emphasised that nurses and frontline health workers should be recognised not only as responders, but as key voices in shaping solutions. Building resilient health systems requires stronger coordination, gender-responsive policies, investment in primary healthcare, and meaningful inclusion of nurses in decision-making.
