It is officially School Board Recognition month! CSBA wishes to acknowledge the more than 5,000 school board trustees who work to support the education and well-being of nearly 6 million public school students in the state. Thank you for your contributions to CA education!
Delbert Cederquist, 90, the nation’s longest-serving school board member, died Dec. 15. He served as CSBA president in 1977, & “valued local control and non-partisanship for school board members ... He championed the needs of small, rural school districts” https://t.co/BFquMMpql8
CSBA's new research is an intensive examination of federal COVID relief spending for all CA districts & COEs —it shows that despite red tape & economic challenges, LEAs have overwhelmingly applied funds to support student needs. https://t.co/VCOkyplHSW @EdSource@educationweek
“We had to be very strategic about how we were going to use those [COVID relief] funds for long-term sustainability,” said Greenfield Unified School District Superintendent @zjgalvan https://t.co/MKVzsmxHQe
Congratulations to the graduates of CSBA's flagship training program, Masters in Governance! MIG equips board members and superintendents with the knowledge and skills to build and support an effective governance structure.
California is dead last nationally in the percentage of students who take the bus to school -- just 10% -- because the state still funds transportation at 1980s levels! It's time to change that and let students take the bus to school again. https://t.co/cNwKsBjpqJ
If you haven't heard @drvictorrios message before, you need to attend CSBA's Leadership Institute!! His story, thoughts about educating our students, and our schools will have you wanting more!
CSBA’s 2022 theme, “Leadership in a time of chaos, change and opportunity,” is in LA, July 22–23. Dynamic keynote speakers include @drvictorrios, associate dean of social sciences at UCSB, who works w/districts to develop programs for struggling students. https://t.co/CTERVcO3wi
Congratulations Emory! You "rock-et"!!! @ValVerdeUSD what an honor for the district. It is our public schools that produce our future leaders, artists and scientists. @NASA@CSBA_Now
CSBA is proud to work with Asm. O'Donnell to reverse 40 years of disinvestment from school transportation funding. CA has the lowest % of students riding the bus of any state! AB 2933 will fix that by funding 100% of local district & COE home-to-school transportation costs.
Get on the bus with AB 2933 the bill that pays 100% of local home-to-school transportation costs. AB 2933 passed the Education Committee with a unanimous, bipartisan 7-0 vote. Don’t let your representative miss the bus. Tell them to vote for AB 2933 so all kids can get to school!
As #Coast2Coast DC comes to a close, wanted to give a shout-out to @Vbilly_CSBA , @dennis4schools & the rest of the @CSBA_Now team.Thx for envisioning this great partnership! Appreciate all of the hard work. Also great hanging out w/ your boisterous & passionate BMs! @ACSA_info
“Are funds really based on student needs? Over and over again, adult politics come at the expense of student needs.” ~ Isa Sheikh, former @officialSCUSD student board member
“If you want to attack someone, attack me. …If you want to go after someone, go after me. Don’t go after school board members, don’t go after these innocent folks trying the right damn thing.” --@GavinNewsom when asked who will enforce new statewide vax mandate for students.
In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, CSBA CEO and Executive Director @Vbilly_CSBA discusses why the experiences of Asian Americans need more attention in schools #AAPIheritagemonth

CA Teachers and school employees will receive vaccine in Phase 1B Tier One. As supply increases expect a timeline for Phase 1B to be announced. Education on safety and a streamline process will be the key in getting our state vaccinated. @SanDiegoCOE@CSBA_Now@SolanaBeachSD
.@Vbilly_CSBA: The financial interests of telecoms and cable companies should not be able to hold the education of students hostage or force governing boards to “MacGyver” internet access for their students. https://t.co/fBzXN6nhlM
This echoes what a state education coalition including @WeAreCTA and @CSBA_Now said yesterday. They also warned that both teachers and families could be resistant to return to school in the fall without the proper resources for social distancing and cleaning.
