there's a reason steakhouses thrive in winter and seafood shacks fill up in summer.
an app that checks the forecast and suggests what your body actually wants to eat. cold front rolling in? soup. heat wave? cold salads.
recipe apps track ingredients. none track atmospheric pressure.
I've got two apps in the pipeline waiting for launch
https://t.co/C7o7eV1lgX which I've been building for a while now, and another one I'll announce soon
Both are self-distributed and focused on macOS
I've been dragging the ADSwift launch for a while.. some users have even started asking when it's finally going to become paid
Aiming for a launch this week if everything goes well

your grandma has a story about the night she met your grandpa. she tells it differently every time. the pauses are the best part.
the app: sends her one question a day. she taps record and talks. you get her voice. her words. her pauses.
one day she won't be here. the voice will.

you said you'd do 10 push-ups a day. you quit after 4 days. nobody noticed.
an app that pairs you with a stranger who chose the same tiny habit. you both check in daily. miss a day = your witness gets notified.
accountability from a stranger is weirdly more effective than a friend. friends let you off the hook. strangers don't.
you can't start working. you've been staring at your screen for 30 minutes.
the app connects you with a stranger who's also trying to focus. both turn on cameras. work silently for 25 minutes. then check in.
body doubling is an actual ADHD technique. having someone just THERE makes your brain start.
most sleep apps tell you how you slept.
RISE makes $500,000/month telling you how you'll feel today.
- opens with "... that drug is sleep." sleep reframed as a performance substance
- "1.7 billion nights of sleep tracked" social proof before a single question
- asks about caffeine cutoff, alcohol use, and melatonin. clinical lifestyle profiling
- dedicated screens explain why it needs phone motion, apple health, and notifications. "without your data, rise won't work"
- calculates your personalized "sleep need" then lets you manually adjust it. agency builds trust
- generates a custom energy schedule curve before asking for money
- 3-screen value carousel with "13k five star reviews" before the price
- paywall led by "our satisfaction guarantee" modal
- "most users feel a difference in just 5 days." fits neatly inside the 7-day trial
- "design your trial" paywall: free 7 days or $0.99 for 1 month. both route to $69.99/year
- "cancel anytime with a tap" plus money back guarantee stacked on the same screen
- CTA says "redeem 7 days free." the word subscribe doesn't appear
- account creation happens after apple pay, not before
- post-purchase trial timeline shows exact reminder and charge dates
While calorie trackers fight over dieters, GoCoCo targets diabetics and makes $85,000/month.
Onboarding:
β "1,000,000 people" + "Created by Registered Dietitians..." this isn't just a food logger. it's a MEDICAL tool. authority established before a single question
β Value Proposition and Feature Showcase
β ATT prompt framed as health personalization
β Clinical questions: diabetes type, A1C levels, glucose monitoring
β Educates user on UPF. teaches a NEW concept. the app is now an educational authority, not just a tracker
β Split-screen hotdog vs salmon: "Not all calories are equal"
β Review prompt after revealing personalized calorie range. dopamine peak. ratings harvested before the paywall
β 3-checkbox medical disclaimer builds clinical trust
β Push notification prompt tied to "stress-free eating"
β Mandatory account creation before paywall
Paywall:
β Single option: 7-day free trial β $69.99/year
β Visual billing timeline. "You'll get a reminder 2 days before." the fear of forgetting to cancel NEUTRALIZED
π¨ SAUCE ALERT π¨
I've roasted hundreds of apps live in our Adapty discord for free
I'm sharing the most common mistakes and the reasoning why they should be avoided
most of the apps roasted are new apps with almost no traffic/no ratings btw
1/ free trial + freemium
offering both is terrible.
a new app likely lack of usefulness and users will see everything there is to see in a few minutes then either cancel their trial or delete the app
I stand by "hard paywall + no trial + no freemium" for newly released apps from inexperienced app makers
that's what I did with stoppr and I've reached $5K revenue in 2 weeks
don't try to balance out a "low usefulness" app by offering too much of a discount to try it out
2/ bad UI/UX
some screens aren't pretty and it's near impossible for makers to know that if they didn't download and test many successful apps + analysed why they're great.
make a claude skill with the screenshots from very successful apps in your niche and explain for each why they're great
you can find them on https://t.co/JCKxmnPm2G for example (ps: I'm not affiliated)
3/ less than 10 ASO screenshots
why?
apple scans the text from your screenshots to index your app in its search results.
it's free real estate
you should use all available real estate
if you don't have enough features to show them across 10 aso screenshots.. then be creative... you can split a phone canva across 2 or even 3 aso screens - and for each a unique title/subtitle
4/ no aso video
adding a promo 10-15s animated aso video in my ASO led to a much higher download rate
people like watching videos and they'll see how your app looks like with animations etc without even downloading it
this reinforces their intent to download your app
5/ offering a trial to everyone
why offering a trial to users coming from paid ads?
usually those are more qualified and with stronger intent.
try trial for users coming from organic content and no trial for users coming from paid ads.
6/ no post-onboarding interactive flow
if you don't explain your users how each feature works, what each sub-menu does, etc etc, some will get confused
add a quick post-onboarding interactive flow to overcome their doubts and confusions.
especially if your app usefulness isn't clear enough and you're offering a freemium.. and they get confused how to use it... don't expect them to subscribe
7/ asking questions in the onboarding.. just for the sake of asking them..
would be best if you actually re-use some of your users' onboarding answers in your onboarding later
it makes them feel heard and understood
immense bonus point if you also use that data in the paywall to personalise the paywall to what they say they need from your app !!
8/ low speed of execution
I've roasted apps from makers who attended the roast live on thursday and they attended again on monday
I've asked them if they shipped their new app version with my recommendations
they said no for various reasons
you're competing with youngsters and leviathans apps moving at lightening speed and.. speed is what prevents a crashing plane to actually crash down
speed gives enough time for the plane to adjust and avoid a catastrophe
we're 6+ months away from anyone to one-shot prompt any app being at the UI/UX level of cal ai, quittr, oasis, etc
I don't say to NOT sleep - I say get your priorities straight because this window opportunity is once in a lifetime and certainly won't repeat
9/ there are many more mistakes I've seen that can be fixed and avoided easily
I'll write the full list on our discord -> link is in the first comment of this post

body doubling is an actual ADHD technique. having someone just THERE makes your brain start.
Journaling apps have millions of users. the output is a wall of text nobody rereads.
the app: journal daily. each entry becomes a colored square in a tapestry. happy = gold. anxious = gray. peaceful = blue. angry = red.
after a year: a 365-square quilt of your emotional year. printable. frameable.
every square is a day you showed up. Daylio gives you a chart. nobody gives you a tapestry.
Over 20% of adult drinkers globally started Dry January in 2024. Most slipped up within the first two weeks. the streak is invisible.
the app: every alcohol-free day grows a new coral in your reef. Vibrant colors, sea life moves in.
the reef IS your sobriety. Beautiful reef = you're doing it.
share your reef. compare with friends.
nobody made sobriety beautiful. this does.
