Some of the people I see now going "W artist they have full freedom"...were part of the harassment.

Artists, do you really care about improving your business, or is the only thing you care about virtue signaling?

Why decline a request simply because of a difference of opinion with the client? Is that really so difficult for you to look past?

You afraid your peers will call you out or go against you because you accepted to do work for them?

If you ever get an artist to work on a model for you - you have to MAKE SURE they are willing to also sell you the rights to the model.

Please do NOT give your business to someone who refuses to do so. It will be a headache for you in the long run.

Can we all agree that Sony should just get out of the streaming / media business.

Like how is it that they lose license to these anime , anime they have exclusive rights streaming. So Amazon doesn’t have it, Hulu, Netflix . And now that they lost these licenses, we have no legal way to watch it outside of hunting down the physical copies.

It also brings the point of - WTF are you doing with our subscription money?! Like collectively that money you’re getting from subscribers should be enough to pay your workers, support the studios (that you promoted by the way) and be able to reinstate your licenses.

Another thing why can’t Crunchyroll/ Sony warn their users “this show’s licensing is expiring” Netflix does that! I remember Netflix letting users know their license to Inuyasha was expiring at one point. But with Crunchyroll they have more of a reason to do that if there’s no competition also streaming that anime they have license to!

Again Sony should just stay out of streaming/ selling third party media (tv shows and movies) cause they keep losing licenses and when it comes to purchased digital media in libraries. They tell you after the fact! And delete your media library ! With no refunds!

The Miia Tzu artist commission incident has shown to me how much a proper honest conversation is made impossible now with the current online environment.

-Everyone has to take a side
-Everyone has to be extreme in their opinions
-When you take a side, all tactics is permitted to win
-Nuance is weakness and cowardice

Its all so tiresome...

I asked a very simple question because I am curious with how some will address it. Most of the replies are either ignoring the question, or saying its somehow "different".

For those who are aware of "bake the cake, bigot!" incident in 2012 (pic 1 relevant will give you a general idea), how is it meaningfully different in principle to what Miia experienced now?

Both situations revolve around a business/trader refusing a service to another over political and/or religious grounds.

Despite being on principle the same issue, I am seeing a lot of people saying they disapprove of the cakeshop's decision to refuse a custom order, while praising the artist for blanket refusing their own commission over "differences in ideals".

For those who want to still say its "different", sure be my guest and find differences that matter...

You will find that in the case of the cake house - the baker still offered his services, only that he cannot accept the custom order...meanwhile in the case of the artist - the artist blanket rejected any and all business outright.

The artist's on conduct alone is worse than the cake house owner, that is the "difference".

The biggest gripe I have with this whole incident is not specifically Miia or her views, or whether I support or oppose it, those are the illustrations. My gripe is WHY the double-standard?

Lets pretend Miia is not in the equation right now, let it be ANYONE else. In fact, lets not even think about who the artist is and who the commission is coming from.

Explain to me, if you are a so-called "principled and moral" individual, what makes one so different from the other that you can have complete opposite reactions to them? Either everyone can reject business for any reason they want, or everyone must accept the business if its not an unlawful request.

Which is it?

I've accepted clients who wanted to commission me and send me AI generated references. Most of them got scammed and got AI stuff instead for the real art they paid for, some of them educated themselves about AI and decided to pay me to turn that AI stuff into real art

For me, if a client wants their AI stuff to be turned into art is already proof enough that they're in the right way

If you prefer to reject clients who use AI references that's OK! Just remember that you don't know their story 💕 communicate, ask them, talk to them, because maybe they have good intentions and by rejecting those clients they will have no choice but to relay on genAI

I think a lot of people miss what the author was trying to explore.

Rudy wasn’t introduced as a role model. He was introduced as someone who wasted his life after years of bullying, isolation, and shutting himself off from the world.

People like that exist in real life today. They’re socially withdrawn, emotionally stunted, and escape into fantasy because reality has completely defeated them.

The fantasy isn’t there to reward Rudy’s past. It’s there to ask a question:

“If someone who completely failed at life was given a genuine second chance, could they become a better person?”

You don’t have to like Rudy. You don’t have to forgive everything he does.

But reducing the entire story to “the author supports this behavior” ignores the larger theme of redemption, growth, and rebuilding a life from absolute rock bottom.

Sometimes it’s worth asking what a story is trying to explore instead of assuming it’s endorsing every action its protagonist takes.
