Today has made it crystal clear that buying cars from dealers is horrible.
A sincere request, if you have a genuine car that you’d like to sell me for my dear dad.
1. Manual
2. 2019 +
3. Good service history
4. Reliable
5. Nice sized boot
6. Ideally nearish Stamford/Tring/London
Get in touch. Please. Do not make me go back out there.
A picture of me taking a photo of a California 30 in a suit. No context.
@7hashtag7 Iilegal: Have the DPF gutted (stealthily so it cannot be seen from below) and have the car remapped to include EGR and DPF delete. This option will fail an MOT if it is obvious. It is, however, the common "fix" used by many. The remap may also increase BHP and improve MPG.
@7hashtag7 Is it being used for lots of short journeys? Modern diesels only work well when taken on longer runs and hate to sit idling in traffic. There are two options;
Legal: assess the use case and maintain the car well. Use it appropriately and ensure the tank doesn't drop below 1/4.
@Tractive Why is it that after cancelling my subscription using the (true) option of 'my pet died', am I getting emails asking me to come back...? Whilst still grieving, you are hounding me to resubscribe? It's not appropriate and it reopens raw wounds.
@MotoNutJob Having worked at dealer level, they were pretty reliable. Just make sure its been well serviced and expect some leaks from the engine and the diff. Don't discount main dealer as BMW have heavily subsidised labour and parts. Sometimes as much as 40% cheaper.
I tried to be clever, and find the OE supplier. I couldn't find Ford's, but their Motorcraft brand isn't highly regarded. The other cars that use this exact brake setup (RR Evoque and Volvo S60/XC60) use different brands (Jurid and ATE respectively).
Sometimes I hate being a neurodivergent car guy. I cant "just" buy brakes. I have to research as I dont want to be stuck with my regret. Currently hovering over ATE pads and Zimmerman discs. Car is heavy(ish) and I drive hard. Commute is country roads with steep declines.
