I see that most people underestimate how difficult the job of a lawyer is, including many lawyers.
1. Once you are a lawyer, it is incredibly difficult to have a balanced personal life. It is never a 9-5 job. Normal corporate jobs where people complain of difficult work schedule have no idea what it is like to be a lawyer at a top law firm or just run a practice. Working late night and weekends is the norm for most lawyers.
2. Mediocre lawyers don't make money. Above average lawyers are also forced to live on pittance. Only top 5% lawyers make a lot of money.
3. It is true that top 1% makes incredible money, but the price they pay for that in under-appreciated. Almost all of them work incessantly, and they usually have no equity value which means if they stop working the earning stops.
4. You are never guaranteed good results just because you did everything that could be done, you can still be roadkill. Lawyers have to deal with uncertainty everyday at the level of professional gamblers or day traders.
5. You almost always work in pressure cooker environment. Even a typo can cost millions of dollars. One misplaced document can make you lose the case.
Most professionals will never experience what it is to be a lawyer. A lot of people drop off along the way because they can't handle this lifestyle.
Top 5% earners in India contribute 66% to direct taxation.
- Total population= 140,00,000,00 (140Cr).
- Total Taxpayers= 800,000,00 (8Cr).
- 40 Lakh people paying 66%.
Creating more jobs would widen our tax-base.
And reduce resentment.
