De droogte is de trigger, maar de Vlaamse overheid is de dader.
Zes jaar Blue Deal, honderden miljoenen euro’s belastinggeld en een berg studies verder, staan de bufferbekkens in de Westhoek leeg. Vlamertinge is dicht, Poperinge sluit en Langemark staat te laag. Boeren mogen geen water meer uit beken en rivieren pompen, moeten 10 euro per kubieke meter betalen om hun gewassen nog enigszins te redden, en zien hun aardappelcontracten sneuvelen.
Wat overblijft zijn krieltjes in plaats van frieten.

De overheid heeft jarenlang geroepen dat waterbuffering noodzakelijk is, terwijl ze tegelijkertijd met haar eigen regels, MER-plicht, vergunningen en beroepen bijna onmogelijk maakt om effectief water vast te houden.
Dat is geen traagheid meer.
Dat is systematische sabotage van het eigen plan. En het ergste is dat ze daarbij speelt met het brood van onze boeren.

Hoeveel studies en nota’s er al betaald zijn terwijl de schop nog altijd niet in de grond is, blijft intussen een open wonde.
Een boer die geen water meer uit een beek mag pompen, krijgt tegelijkertijd een administratieve muur voor de kiezen wanneer hij zelf een bufferbekken wil aanleggen.
Miljoenen belastinggeld verdwijnen in procedures in plaats van in echte capaciteit, terwijl niemand politiek verantwoordelijkheid neemt voor een plan dat in 2020 is aangekondigd en in 2026 nog altijd faalt bij de eerste echte droogtetest.
Als de Vlaamse overheid haar eigen plan systematisch blokkeert met haar eigen regels, blijft de vraag wie ons dan nog moet beschermen tegen de volgende droogte.

De Blue Deal is een farce.
De rekening ligt op de akkers.

A dear friend of mine handed me this writing found from a nursing home resident and I want to share it with you...
“I am 82 years old, I have 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a room of 12 square meters.
I no longer have a home or expensive things, but I have someone who will clean my room, prepare food and change my bedding, measure my blood pressure and weigh me.
I no longer have the laughter of my grandchildren around me, I don't see them growing, hugging and arguing. Some come to me every 15 days, some every three or four months, and some never.
I don't bake cakes anymore, I don't dig up the garden. I still have hobbies and I like to read, but my eyes quickly hurt.
I don’t know how much longer, but I have to get used to this loneliness. Here at this home, I lead group work and help those who are worse than me as much as I can.
Until recently, I read aloud to an immobile woman in the room next to me, we used to sing together, but she died the other day.
