Noooo! I thought I was on to the final proofread of the trade mark registrability chapter of the new edition of our IP textbook (due to be with the publisher in 3 weeks time). But now back to revisit the footnote on this one...
Yuval Noah Harari argues that what’s at stake in Ukraine is the direction of human history. Peace requires continuous good choices, whereas it takes a single bad decision to start a war. https://t.co/cZ8yJQx2cM
The new rules of the “creator economy” - really great piece by The Economist that looks at the relationship between platforms and their user-creaters https://t.co/RDCJBfzAix
Just watched Coded Bias and it reminded me to finally support this European Citizens' Initiative - it's important and you should too! @AJLUnited@edri https://t.co/X0F9I3zYrk
Really great presentations on Art. 17 #CDSM and the German proposal for implementation by @JPQuintais and @Nordemann for ABA-BVA. I especially enjoyed the thoughts on the interplay between #CDSM and #DSA and the differing views on the normative nature of Art. 17! :)
I also loved the idea about the need for forerunners and, tied to that, your caution against pushing for consentual guidelines on the interpretation of exceptions.
@DrEmilyHudson thanks for your insightful + engaging lecture on drafting copyright exceptions for @copyrightcentre!
Having done socio-legal research in (c) myself, I was really excited to hear you affirm that the law in action needs to inform the way laws are drafted!

...Officials suggested vaccinating people under 80, whose turn hasn't yet come. But the health ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia would not agree. Better not to vaccinate at all than to vaccinate the wrong people!"
German efficiency, flexibility and organisation strike again.
https://t.co/vKXVUJMVDB "Bonn currently has a surplus of vaccine doses because many people have not turned up for their appointment. The city wanted to distribute the vaccine to neighboring municipalities, but regulations prevent this..."
@carlmalamud @brianwc I can't believe this. I can't believe laws are not publicly available online, for free, nor the quoted reasoning by the SC. Germany, thankfully, is a completely different story.
a research company. Curbing the power of big tech is a matter for the world’s trustbusters, which must not be conflated with bailing out press barons. The survival of newspapers should depend on business, not regulation."
"The question of who pays for public-interest journalism remains unanswered. But few think it ought to be Google and Facebook. That would “undermine the principles of an independent press”, says Alice Pickthall of Enders Analysis,..
