Sometimes a picture says more than a long speech.
DG- President of GC-Chair EX BR, one table one conversation
@UNESCO is strongest when dialogue replaces distance, when consultation replaces assumption, and when cooperation is recognized not as a concession, but as a strength.
Regular dialogue with the leadership of @UNESCO’s Governing Bodies is essential to advancing our shared priorities and strengthening our collective action.
Today, I met with the President of the General Conference, Khondker M. Talha, and the Chairperson of the Executive Board, Nasser Bin Hamad Al Hinzab, to discuss #UNESCO80 and the launch tomorrow of the Open-Ended Working Group on its Pillar 2.
We exchanged views on how UNESCO can further enhance its impact, relevance, and effectiveness in a rapidly changing world. #ForThePeople
It was a great pleasure to award the five exceptional women scientists at the 28th L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science Awards Ceremony at @UNESCO, together with Jean-Paul Agon, Chairman of @LOrealGroupe and President of the @FondationLOreal.
Professor Liesl Zühlke, Professor Felice Jacka, Professor Sarah A. Teichmann, Professor Raquel Lia Chan and Professor Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic are advancing science in fields that touch lives everywhere — from child heart health and mental health to genomics, food security and regenerative medicine.
Over nearly three decades, the L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science programme has supported more than 5,000 women researchers from over 100 countries, and honoured 137 international laureates from 45 countries - seven of whom have gone on to receive the @NobelPrize.
This is more than a record of achievement. It is proof that when women scientists are given the recognition, support and visibility they deserve, science advances — and humanity benefits.
To our 2026 Laureates: congratulations. Your work advances knowledge, improves lives and reminds us what science can achieve when all talents are given their full place. #ForWomenInScience #WomenInScience #ForThePeople

Meaningful and beautiful first celebration of the International Day for #SIDS at @UNESCO HQ, Paris, hosted by the Permanent Delegations of #Armenia 🇦🇲 and the #EU 🇪🇺, as Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of SIDS, together with SIDS delegations to UNESCO.
At today’s inaugural International Day of Small Island Developing States, I underscored a simple truth: SIDS must be central to our shared priorities.
Contributing less than 1% of global emissions, they face some of the most severe climate impacts.
@UNESCO is committed to working hand in hand with SIDS to strengthen knowledge, build capacities, and foster resilience across societies and ecosystems. #ForThePeople

Honoured to take part in an animated exchange with Sorbonne students yesterday, along with @VeraForReform and @EXBChairperson. Their perspectives were interesting & inspiring – and a reminder that we are stronger when we look beyond national borders to build global solutions.

I have just landed in Beirut for a visit of solidarity with the people of Lebanon.
They did not choose this war. They were dragged into it.
The @UN & I will spare no effort in striving for the peaceful future that Lebanon & this region so richly deserve.
On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the courage and leadership of women everywhere. My thoughts are especially with those living through conflict and crisis, whose resilience sustains families, communities, and hope itself. @UNESCO#WomensDay2026
