Why does a 500+ acre data center have a tiny parking lot?

Because almost no one works there. These sites are not offices or factories. They’re giant machines.

Once built, a hyper scale campus often runs with 50–200 people on site — technicians, security, facilities. Highly automated. Mostly monitored remotely.

The land isn’t for people. It’s for:
- massive power gear
- cooling systems
- security buffers
- future expansion

Construction is the opposite: thousands of workers for a couple years. Then they leave.

That’s why the building is huge and the parking lot looks like it belongs to a dentist’s office.

So, explain to me again why giving up 500+acres for a data center that destroys the resources of the land around them and will only employ 50-200 (mostly H-1B's) is so beneficial we must bow down to them?
