“While I can, I sail east in the Dawn Treader. When she fails me, I paddle east in my coracle. When she sinks, I shall swim east with my four paws. And when I can swim no longer, if I have not reached Aslan’s country … I shall sink with my nose to the sunrise.”—Reepicheep
I mean, how do we have any kind of spiritual life at all if we can't pay attention longer than a goldfish? How do you pray, read the Bible, sit under a teaching, or rest well on the Sabbath when every chance you get, you reach for the dopamine dispenser that is your phone?”-Comer
It doesn’t take much at all to affirm a basic form of eternal generation. It’s a linchpin doctrine for the Trinity, and denying it creates more biblical-theological problems than it solves.
Here’s something I wrote awhile back summarizing Athanasius’s view: https://t.co/JKVlbpSIUt
Good Thursday morning peeps! I read a powerful and thoughtful truth this morning during my devotion on John 3:30 (He must increase and I must decrease). The author said, “Most of us do not mind serving Jesus as long as we are still seen doing it.” Let that sink in.
Pastor friends: I am convinced that we (general observation) aren’t doing enough doctrinal preaching in our churches. There are exceptions to this, of course. We need more “doctrine that dances” in our pulpits. Join with me in being text-driven theologians for the church.
“At three I had a feeling of
Ambivalence toward my brothers.
And so it follows naturally I poisoned all my lovers.
But now I'm happy: I have learned
The lesson this has taught:
That everything I do that's wrong
Is someone else's fault.”
Folksong by Anna Russell
At Sinai, Moses ascended into the presence of God, and the law of God, written on tablets of stone, was brought down to the people. At Pentecost, Jesus ascended into the presence of God and the Spirit of God was sent down, writing the law on the hearts of the people.—S. Ferguson
“Christ does not have out of body experiences. You cannot have a high view of Christ and a low view of His body, The Church, at the same time.”

I know that some roadwork on a hot Sunday afternoon might not seem like much of a rest, especially by judging the look on my face, but I assure you, spending my Sabbath on the trail for awhile is one of the most enjoyable and recharging activities I could ever enjoy. #IFYYK
@DrDavidLAllen@MABTS I would have been there but my brother, Emmitt McKenzie decided he would go preach in Canada instead of walk. If that’s not Mid-America, I don’t know what is?! 😃
I just posted my @PhoenixSeminary talk on sanctification over on the YouTube machine. I discuss:
- Pop ideas of sanctification
- How it relates to union with Christ and justification
- How Athanasius’s focus on participation strengthens our doctrine

@brandon_d_smith @PhoenixSeminary I am definitely going to watch this Brandon! I’ve been reading a book on the Holy Spirit by Sinclair Ferguson and I’m fascinated with this subject.
