Of course thr USA does benefit from a relationship with Europe. It has been a one sided partnership for over 50 years.

The point of the thread is that the EU would have never existed without that one sided partnership for over half a century.

That is not an indictment of the relationship or an arrogant statement. It is an acknowledgement that the USA needs Europe as a buffer on the continent to counter the then U.S.S.R.
