🚨 URGENT: Yesterday, this horse was abandoned with no driver anywhere, just steps from chaotic Midtown traffic, as children, families with strollers and other pedestrians walked inches away.

Leaving a carriage horse unattended is a violation of law and is the same reckless behavior that led to the death of 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan in June. That driver was fired. Why are drivers still violating the same law with no consequences from the carriage owners or @transportworker?

One spook could cause another catastrophic crash, serious injury or death.

While Romanch’s Law, Intro 943, moves through @NYCCouncil, NYC should immediately suspend horse carriage rides. These drivers have proven they cannot operate safely or follow basic laws protecting the public.

The carriage industry wants you to believe the 160 horses will be sent to slaughterhouses if Intro 943 passes. That is NOT the truth.

Wayne Pacelle, who has spent three decades leading the fight against horse slaughter, just made it plain in the Daily News today: Animal Wellness Action, Center for a Humane Economy, and other partners are ready to place every single one of these horses. When they freed 2,000 lab beagles, they had 10 qualified homes waiting for every dog. The sanctuaries are ready. They can handle the volume.

Instead of 10-hour days on hot asphalt, breathing exhaust and dodging 42 million tourists, these horses can spend their years grazing on pasture, breathing fresh air, and living like horses were meant to live.

The tragic death of 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan showed us the cost of waiting. Safe homes are not an obstacle to reform. They're a promise.

Free the horses. Help workers. Save lives. The Year of the Horse is the year we finally do it! 🐴
